Something Just came across my noob mind, If you had a cfw 3.55 PS3 and a 3.60, could this allow you to use the both PS3s as a 3.55 cfw? Cause all you would have to do is copy the data from 3.55 HDD and 3.60. Normally, the hard drive would have to be formatted. Am I right or is the firmware stored somewhere else?

dude... read the first post....
ANY ONE ASKS, NO THIS WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO SWAP HDD'S BETWEEN A CFW AND OFW (stock/original) PS3, for like PSN access!

Firmware is not stored on the harddrive.
Look into dev_flash.

because this means it only needs to be turned off once, then all the new data is being written unencrypted, and you won't need to format it again. but yes, for that first time you will lose your stuff so it's not going to be for everybody.

I guess back alley hackers are just going to have a hard drive image with 50 games on it. They format a new hard drive and stick it in a new ps3 and bam it's ready for craigslist....
It is a really interesting development tho and there's gotta be some good legitimate uses for it.

Depends on your ps3 model, the older ones had 256mb if NAND those have everything in regard to firmware on the ps3 itself, later models to cut cost use a 16mb nor and those have the firmware all stored in a section on the hdd called a virtual flash and if you swap Hdds that don't have a matching virtual flash will ask you for the matching firmware on a USB stick and then it installs it!
