Graf has found a way to switch off the encoding mechanism. NOT switch off the encoding on existing data.
What this means is that if you flip this switch you have to start again from scratch because the ps3 will not be able to read all the encrypted stuff already on the drive. So it needs to start again with a format.
When this is done, and everything is up and running again, all information written to the disk will be in the clear and other machines could read it. And your PC as well. In theory. I don't know how possible this is right now.

Seriously, this is how the damn PS3 HDD should have been designed IN THE FIRST PLACE. There is no damn reason to lock the stupid HDD to a specific console and it would have solved the locked saves dying with your system (or ALL saves dying with your system if you never made a backup) problem from day 1.
If MS can let me unplug my 360's HDD and plug it into any other 360 then there is NO reason my PS3 can't do the same, and above all locked saves and locked storage devices should not exist together. The system either has all save data be copyable/backup-able or lets the storage device (in this case, the HDD) be usable on any system, NOT LOCK BOTH!

Actually isn't that already possible? I saw marcan throw a PS3 HDD into his laptop on a video about AsbestOS. All he did was connect some thing to the back of the drive and popped it in. He said there was no modifications on the drive or on linux side. he said it was a standard linux file system or something.Quote:
