The folks over at Demonhades have managed to connect the PS3 bluray drive to the PC and have the PC recognize it as well.

    To quote (translated):

“Our colleague has managed HadesTeam Calimba of connecting the PS3 BD player to the PC, as you all know the communication interface that uses the reader is bd flex belt so you do not have any type of connector for this work, so we have communicated BD reader to the pc to start to investigate more thoroughly. Jungleflasher as both dosflash recognize it.”

yeah it is good news. i find myself so surprised seeing that jungleflasher and dosflash were used and worked. yup once the BD keys are found (perhaps also decrypted) then we will probably be looking at flashing cfw to BD drives to play back-ups.

Well, thanks for posting the news, I moved it to the front page.

Not sure what model of PS3 BD Drive they are using, more then likely the one of the newer designs, as the newer ones are SATA, so much easier to hook up.

Also the latest PS3 drives on the Slim (also SATA design), have all the firmware and drive key stored in small 8pin flash chip similar to the Benq and earlier Toshiba/Samsung drives found on the 360.

Whereas the older PS3 drives (the big flat cable ones on the PHAT), had the firmware and drive key stored in a large 2megabyte 48pin BGA flash chip similar to the ones found on the PSP motherboards.

It seems the latest PS3 models might be more hackable then the original designs.

    Time will tell.

It would be nice if the new ps3's that never had order os feature are the first to get hacked. Although since I own an older one I would want it to get hacked shortly afterward.

In a better world shortly after this outher OS somehow would get added to all ps3s fully unlocked. The military then uses this to help there cell processor research that somehow results in the end of terrorism

i just hope that fw v3.15 isn't somehow involved as a prerequite to make this new potential exploit feasible. i still can't believe that 360 drive flashing tools were being used (karma plus to team jungle).

i guess that are some board similarities between the 360 and PS3 drives.

Well thank you noetikos for posting this news. I am very happy to hear it. Thanks to demonhades for doing usefull actions because all those years so many fakes been seen on you tube and no-one new where to start, even Geohot looks like went the wrong path though probably he wanted to help.
I know that it is still will take some time until something usefull will come out of all of it, but I believe that this is where hacking for ps3 should start from.
I myself wanted to buy for this generation of HD-consoles----ps3, but was not sure because slim didnt have "other OS" and I didnt want to have ps3 without "homebrew"---
    cause thats not fun.
I am very hope that "DemonHades team will succeed and that ps3 finally will be hacked.
Sony must realize that ps3 will be hacked either way.
