The PS2 HDD its launch date it's going to be in March 2004, also the 40GB PS2 HDD is going to retail for 99$ and it will include Final Fantasy XI preinstalled. Another thing is that the HDD will also include a media player allowing the users to store and play MP3s and songs ripped from CDs, while a photo manager enables users to store, edit, and display digital photos.

PS2 owners can also browse game-related and other content stored on the HDD. These features resemble versions of the PS2 BB Navigator software that is already available in Japan. The PS2 HDD will allow you to download updates for games, the first ones with this feature will be SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs and Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain

The game will be sold preinstalled in the HDD for retail of 99$ and the game monthly fee will be the first 30 days free then it will be a $12.95/per month rate.

AGREE its a little late in the game. THEY should have done this with all ps2s as soon as the heard about m$ doing this with the xbox its late too late if were lucky we will get a years use out of it at the most.

Could I use that HDD in a modded PAL ps2?I don't plan to go online,since I don't have broadband, but I like the media player, picture viever and ripping cd-s...

I agree, it is far too late. As with the network adapter (and its very poor online support), can we really expect a lot out of it when the PS3 is due out in 2005/2006 and developers begin changing over? I mean geez, the net adapter came out just a few months ago and there's like 3 decent games for it with the exception of the EA ONLINE ONLY ON PS2 backing. About as useless as the GameCube's net adapter, which Nintendo refuses to make games for. With the hard drive, I don't see much more out of it besides homebrew, throwing out memory cards, and maybe 10 games max which use it. Everyone complained about the Xbox being a mini-PC. Isn't the Playstation slowly turning into one?
