So we know what the
console looks like (PSŪVita), but what about the new game cartridge? Screenshots have now surfaced of the new Sony game cartridge and flash cards for the PSVita. The flash cards seem to be different size than the actual SD cards, and we have zero details on the game cartridges – I guess we will find out more details in the coming months.
Personally I think Sony should have dropped the cartridge all together and made all game releases via PSN/downloads.
Thanks to
anonymous for news tip.

I really hope Sony isn't coming out with a new flash card standard that will only be used with the PS Vita! If they use regular sd cards, that will be cool. I can see where the cartridge is cool, though. It's a lot better than the umd format! And I still like to buy my games in store with a physical box and instruction manual, so I can see the cartridge having it's place.

Oh Sony... what are you playing at? Stop trying to force new mediums on people, look at how UMD crashed and burned.

great news for the second hand market, not so great for sony however there was no way they would be going download only after the terrible sales PSPGo had, so they didn't have much of a choice.

I don't dislike this cartridge as I disliked the (noisy) UMD.
But I have a feeling this is gonna be hacked very fast, though.

What format would you like them to use? Doubt they would use any normal consumer format due to their paranoid fear of piracy.

I think your right - but I don't necessarily want a hacked one. I think the online side on this should be quite good so will probably stick to stock.

Doesn't online still work on the hacked PSP's?

What makes you think this won't be pirated just as fast, if not quicker, than their prior machines? To me, creating a whole new format per machine is just... wasteful and unnecessary.

I'm not sure if they've learned their security mistakes of past consoles.. so I can't say.. however I assume that's one of the reasons why sony are using their own format instead of going with something known that could easily dump games like SD Card.
Edit :
When pressed, Hirai said the NVG card was developed to ‘add an extra layer of security’ in order to deter piracy, a hot topic after recent PlayStation 3 hacks.
