Sony representatives At E3 have unveiled the latest US ps2 unit. All of the PS2s they are using for demonstration of various games and innovations at E3 are the latest models. The new models are based on the latest japanese ps2 incarnation that will read DVD-R
& DVD+R media for movies. However, the latest test models did not contain the built in infra-red, and latest DVD remote that allows control over the ps2 tray although they did say it indeed had the latest DVD drivers. The model number on the current display units is: SCPH-30101S . It is also said to have the intergrated EE/GS chip called the dragon. Still no word on the latest cd/dvd DSP which plagues some of the HK, TW and now Austrailian units with dvdr game booting issues. All of this information should not be taken as full fact that these features will be (added/left out) in the final US retail version.

hehe, great, anything code named dragon must be a beotch to get modified, lol. Hopefully the DMS 3 or Messiah 2 will work with it, I may sell my v7 in order to get one.

shouldn't the new dragon version be labelled as a v9 - we already have v8 090 machines which are non dragon chipsets

makes a lot of sense no ?

excuse my dumbness on this topic but wouldn't this new ps2 with a better laser be better for overall booting of backups? Media such as cheap dvd-r? I dont see why many people dont like this new version. i havent gotten a working ps2 yet and i may buy this new version what do you guys think should i wait for this new version or get the the v7 before its all gone?

Against everyone else, I say wait, but don't buy it the day it comes out. Wait until the coast is clear and this board revision has been hacked. Even with new security on the board a possibility, this is the ps2 we have been waiting for, one that faithfully boots DVD-R and CD-R. So I say get it as soon as the modchips support it.
