The longer $ony holds onto the game, the longer they make $0 (and the less time they will have to make any money) on said game. I would suggest they release it very soon, in hopes that they may still have a chance to make a few dollars, instead of later when EVERYONE has a "jailbreak" of some sort and piracy is rampant. They will then make no money on it (unless you want to count the few copies that Gamefly and Blockbuster purchase).

The PS3 as been relinquished. It no longer belongs to $ony.

payload_dev => Same as standard with the addition of peek/poke
payload_dump_elfs => Not sure. I think its to help find the offsets for new firmware (ie how he got 3.01 and 3.15 working)
payload_no_unauth_syscall => Same as the default payload but has 3 patches missing/disabled

I just used the descriptor for payload_dev 3.41 and incorporated it into my PIC18F source code.

Like I said, with a fresh clean formatted hdd (done in retail more. no jailbreak) the payload_no_unauth_syscall version has issues reading/writing anywhere outside the applications own folder. It has nothing to do with Hermes payloads making files with elevated permissions (not saying this isn't an issue but it's not the cause here). I never even used Hermes V4. I did use the hermes+mathielh+etc combined payload but that was before the format.

Anyway, payload_dev and default_payload work fine without any permission issues for me on my formatted hdd. That's good enough for now.
Thanks for that. Now the real question is, what's the best way to get my hands on the latest PL3 dev hex?

I think it's time I start learning how to compile these myself, as it's becoming very confusing downloading the ones people in here post.

Where's a good place to start?

actually, the default & dev do not have the MOH patch. Those were the ones people compiled in the beginning of this thread, and got 80010019 errors.

    actually, they do.

    http://github.com/kakaroto/PL3/commits/master

You can see in the commit history, Jason McKey added the MOH patch to the default and dev payloads. Then, after that, kakaroto added the new no_unauth_syscall payload.

You should probably check the source code and understand which patches do what before making incorrect assumptions. It only leads to more confusion. The ones people tried in the beginning of the thread were based off the old snapshot of PL3. The code is always changing with each new commit, and the default and dev payloads get updated.

    Any ideas?

    No, I didn't solve it.
In the end I gave in and got a copy of evilsperm/jtanner's ubuntu virtualbox.
Set that up and it compiled first time.

It's very easy to setup and you can select sdk 1.92 or 3.41 to compile.
Already comes with everything you need to compile PL3 etc.

    Cheers,
    JonahUK.

    My bad, thanks for clarifying.

So have we confirmed that the no_unauth syscall is what is causing the permission problems?
