Someone recently pointed me towards yet another gamecube mod. At first i didnt pay much attention to it as i stick with ps2 things and not gamecube junk but there was something very interesting about this mod at second glance. More on that later. Lets talk about the mod first.

The Ninjachip, third gamecube modchip to hit the scene with the usual 7 wire install exactly like the ripperGC. Not much else is known about the ninja beyond its obvious roots to the viper and ripper. The ninjamod team themselves are known for simply re-marketing clones. Their first chip being an ICE clone created by HK-Mods and sold under their name.

Now the interesting issue lies in the ninjamod's rather sloppy hardware. From the clues given about repackaging and remarketing hardware thats sold to them one can possibly conclude that HK or some other well known rippers have managed to get to the gamecube or known gamecube mods already?

Very interesting indeed, only time will tell. Hopefully the real GC sceners will be the true voice of the scene and not those of lamers and cloners.

More then likely they have a rip of anaconda bios running on there. Nothing like free code. Speaking of which if you want quality free code get a scenix programmer and read the ice forums very good people.

Strangely enough at first glance it kindoff looked like a ps2 mod,28(probebly 4 of them are for programing) soldering pionts each to a different point on the Lattice(Wnder what that might be for since only 7 is needed )...it kindoff reminds me of the quick ripper hack the ripper did to there ripper3 chip to let it work on the GC,who knows maybe that pcboard was intended for the PS2 and just reprogramed for the GC.

Also it seems to be missing a led and a resistor going to one of the pins on the flash wonder what that was allreginally intended for

This is an exact copy of tmbinc's diagrams. He put them out there for free... this was to be expected. It's not a Viper Clone. The Viper, from what I've heard, gets the BIOS override done much cleaner (certainly seems it only requiring 4 wires). The ninjamod requires most of the wires going directly onto the GC BIOS chip and even lifting a leg on the chip to connect a wire to.

The ninja mod comes unflashed, and according to the developer, is made to run GCoS (without the permission of the GCOS team mind you).

dont quote me on this but that aint the bios did some research many moons ago and from what i was led to believe the bios in the gamecube is not contained in just one ic its masked over a number of ic's all tm's mod did was attack the bus overiding the bios and making the gamcube read from tm's mod much like whats been done with the pass through and the new nint DS asking it to load from a different location

more info on thazt here http://www.xenatera.com/bunnie/proj/anatak/
and for people to call tm ameteur you know who you are is wrong without his research and device viper team and others would not have anything to base their work on much rather work it out by themself these guys cant do that they steal they cheat they lie

Not quite. The BIOS is stored on one chip, but it's encrypted. The data is shifted out of the rom one bit at a time and decrypted on the way. The way the shift registers work is one bit is sent from the rom and one returns at the same time, but nintendo screwed up and sent the decrypted data back to the rom in the clear. So all that had to be done was sniff the rom input line. Then the encrypted data was compared to the decrypted data to obtain the algothim.

About time for some cheap clones! Viper was over $50 US each wholesale! By the time it was marked up to retail, in never sold a single unit because nobody will pay almost $100 CDN for just a chip. It's ridiculous to sell a chip at such a high price wholesale that nobody wants to buy it.

Hopefully this will bring some much needed competition into the GC scene.
