New PS2Quake Release And New Homepage! –
nic plourde has released a new binary to his ps2quake project. This release is matched by the introduction of the projects new homepage at psx-scene.com! The new ps2quake homepage is located at http://ps2quake.psx-scene.com Be sure to check it out for all of the latest news and official binaries for the quake project. OObles of PS2Dev.org was gracious enough to supply some cvs space on his site for the source code repository. We would like to encourage anyone who wants to give a helping hand with the quake port to grab the sources at the cvs link on the homepage.
As for the latest binary release, it specs full speed graphics but no sound yet and for the moment only supports booting from host and usb mouse and keyboard support(no joypad) but who the hell plays quake with a pad?
Again go grab the latest release at http://ps2quake.psx-scene.com
Awwwee..yeah...let the quaking begin. Didn't know he was gonna tackle Q2 as well. As a side note, the Official Q3A Source Binaries from iD are bound to be released in the near future as well, according to Carmack.
Then again, not sure how happy Sony would be in that there's already a Q3A game for PS2 already.
yes but the q3 for the ps2 cant go online right.... can these quake I and Quake II go online ?
not yet, the port is in its early stages. If your a programmer you can grab the source and add network support yourself.

Dudes you said Ohh Q3 source code inst avaiable yet.. BUTTTT Enemy Territory source code (that is based on RTCW and that is based on Q3 code) is avaiable so someone in the future could mess with it too :P (and enemy territory engine has some nice tweaks )
Something I was thinking about would be for the ports of Quake & Quake 2 for PS2 to have support for running Quake/Quake 2 from Host, CD/DVD & HDD. Another feature which would be great is to allow the ports of Quake/Quake 2 to load add-on levels, people could download add-on Quake/Quake 2 levels from the Internet & load them from Host, CD/DVD & HDD. Basically, a there should be a menu option in PS2Quake which would allow you to load add-on levels.
Well, if ID Software does release the source to Quake 3 & someone ports it to PS2, I don't think that Sony do anything since you need to own a copy of Quake 3 (I believe for PC) to get the data files which are needed to run Quake 3 since a PS2 version ported from the PC source code will only be the binary. Also, people would need a modchip or know how to use the PS2 Indepedence Exploit (I know that Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3 are too big to put on memory card) but using the PS2 Exploit along with PS2MENU & PS2LINK, you can install these games to the HDD.

Has anyone been successful in loading it? I tried to load it into PCSX2 Emulator, but got the following message:
[RPC:fileio] open("host:/id1/pak0.pak", mode=00000001)
name: id1/pak0.pak, file2open: host\id1/pak0.pak
ENOENT File or path not found
[RPC:fileio] open("host:/id1/gfx.wad", mode=00000000)
name: id1/gfx.wad, file2open: host\id1/gfx.wad
ENOENT File or path not found
FindFile: can't find gfx.wad
Basically, it cant find its way into the id1 folder. I have tried loading just the elf file, and have even made a bin file and loaded it that way... same result. Suggestions are appreciated! If anyone has a method for putting this to CD, that would be great! I have not had success in this route either.
