"It supports CFW on your harddrive, so once you have a "finalized" build of your CFW, just throw it on hdd0 and run the app on start!"

Forgive me, but - this implies there is a means to run an application on boot. I've been looking for a way to do this, but I'm guessing there is not - am I mistaken, or did I miss something?

No, this means that you don't need to have anything external plugged in. You run the Flash Loader after booting the PS3 from the XMB, which loads your "CFW" that is stored internally.
