George Hotz, the infamous iPhone and Playstation 3 hacker, has given up trying to fully unlock the PS3,
Citing his resignation of Twitter earlier, the hacker stated that;
Hotz, aka geohot, procured access to the Sony Playstation 3 some time ago, including bypassing some of the on-board security software. Sony responded by releasing a firmware update that prevented the use of alternative operating systems to be used on the console, such as Linux.“It was a cool ride, and I learned a lot. Maybe I’ll do in the next few days, a formal reunion."
He went on to state that he simply hacked the iPhone because he was bored, stating that he felt people took it far too seriously- it is only a phone, after all.
It appears that the task of fulling unlocking the Playstation 3 was just too difficult for Hotz, and many fans may have a long wait ahead of them if they wish to see alternative operating systems back on their Sony console.
His Twitter account appears to have since been pulled from the site.
