    From http://ps2dev.org/

Sjeep has committed to CVS the source to his libhdd, aswell as released it as version 1.2. Development of parts of libhdd (specifically, the utiliy library, APA driver and PFS driver) was sponsored by DMS Technologies - www.dms3.com, who were great to agree to releasing libhdd with an Academic Free License. Well done Sjeep and to the others involved!...
    Changes since v1.0 include:

Included source code for ps2fs.irx and ps2hdd.irx
Fixed bug in ps2fs bitmap manipulation code
Changed 'size' and 'freeSpace' in the t_hddFilesystem structure to be units of mega-bytes rather than bytes.
Fixed reporting of free HDD space
Fixed hddGetFilesystemList, which would return an incorrect list if a passworded partition was present on the HDD.
Good job Sjeep,Vector, Florin Sasu, mrbrown and adresd

I really do not see sony editing the hw(be sides hdd used) or the drivers. The drivers have been tested on sony hdd's(japan) + non-sony hdd's and it be safe to say mrbown has tested them using linux hdd(US) as the atad/dev9 drivers are made by him. if sony dos edit the hw/drivers i bet it will be very easy to update the drivers to work
