Nobody is under any illusions that LG is doing this merely for personal profit and gain. So is every company in the world for that matter.
Software patents suck in general, patent trolls suck even more, but like somebody else said, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and it's good to see them get beaten in court.
Perhaps they'll back the hell off Geohot and Graf_Chokolo if LG keeps this up and they can't screw around anymore ruining random citizens' lives with trumped up charges. Seriously, **** Sony.

This is pretty bad news
Furthermore,
i dont get the sony hate on here, why did you all buy a ps3, just to hate on it?
I bought it cause i like the games and general service of the s brand. Eventhough they go around sueing people, its perfectly natural for them to, as all this hacking did lead to pirating, everyone denying this is ignorant.
Being happy about a ban on consoles and things like this, what would you all do if playstation would just shut down...
Rant over

This is great news, and it's not because I am anti-Sony or anything. Or that there is an LG TV hanging in my room (there's a Sony downstairs
).
It's simply karma for all the BS they are pulling with Geohot + co.

You don't sue your customers for messing with a device they purchased and own. Especially after they offered to fix the mistakes Sony made. You come to a middle-ground of understanding. Hackers got serious after Linux was removed from the Slim, then from the Phat. Even if that Linux was a poor excuse of an OS implementation with no hardware access.
Look at Jailbreaks vs iPhone for reference.

If I were a mod (and normally I'm 100% against bans - even when it comes to people using foul language or trolling - people have a right to free speech), I would instant-ban you just for this alone - putting this out there AS IF IT'S PERFECTLY NORMAL WHAT SONY IS DOING when it is an OUTRAGE. Your attitude here is a threat to my personal freedoms because it allows crap companies like Sony to get away with offensive fascist shit - that kind of 'freedom of expression' is the only one I personally feel warrants a ban.
So you think it's perfectly fine for Sony to ruin average citizens' lives and extort them for well up to 1 Million Euros BECAUSE 'all this hacking did lead to pirating'? Seriously, you need to have your head examined and join this little thing called reality again - and stop feeling sorry for an 'industry' that does not give a crap about you, the consumers, nor the workers that actually make those games.
You've read too much PR propaganda in magazines like Edge Magazine. The real games industry is not this cute and fluffy place that Mr. Bobby Kotick and Kaz Hirai tell you it is in corporate press releases.

I don't think anyone's hating on their PS3s. The hate is directed towards Sony. I personally bought a PS3 because it was a multi-purpose way to hedge my bets in the HD-DVD/Blu-ray war. Before jailbreaking and the emulators, my PS3 got very limited gaming use.
The people who are happy about this, I think, are happy to see something not go Sony's way.

Well, for all teh LG haters, let's just put it this way.
LG wins = Sony has less money
Sony has less money = Sony has less power
Sony has less power = Hackers have a chance
Hackers have a chance = Freedom prevails.
LG, go ahead and sue. Sue, sue, sue. We support you

I am a 'PS3 user'? No, I BOUGHT a PS3 - I am a 'PS3 owner'. That right there tells me you're part of this mentally insane Sony fanboy club that thinks it's alright being a slave to this pathetic company and just putting up with their bullshit.
Not me buddy. So yeah, I feel pretty glad at somebody getting a little piece of medicine back. Now go cry some more like the good little fanboy you are over poor little Howard Stringer's feelings being hurt, while I proceed to mock and laugh at you.
What is pathetic, is the way in which you interact with anyone on this website. Your incoherent ramblings and attacks on others is quite tiresome. You call sony a bully and act like this? Laughable.

How exactly is it an outrage? What they did isn't exactly cute and fluffy and you'd have to be completely naive to get into this to not even consider the financial repercussions that you could be hit with for your actions. They aren't average citizens who uploaded a game onto the internet and got their pants sued off like that Nintendo case.
You're right that Sony is a business that exists to protect its own self interests. Hence them trying to stop Geo and company.
