DUAL BOOT between Linux and CFW (Game OS) really nice ,
but please insert a (full) ntfs support in the new CFW !!!
Id be very happy to have ubuntu on my ps3, in a dual boot fashion as i do on my pc..
Am I reading correctly, that this will in fact have full access to the PS3 processor / agp as GAMEOS does? unlike yellowdog that was installed on OFW?
If so.. wow, that would be very interesteing!
If you install Linux can it run most program's that are wrighten for Linux? Linke for example VLC Sorry for this noob question![]()
Also if something like dosbox would be included so you could play old dos games that would be AWESOME! Jazz jack rabit, stargunner, raptor...
Also ive read about NTFS support a long time ago, that it would be possible if it would be implemented in CFW. Or is shit bullsh*t? Source link
Hell yea Make it Happen Kmeaw
I have been waiting patiently for a media center and linux to come to the PS3 and this would be absolutely awesome if it can be done.
So Kmeaw add me to your list of folks wanting it.
Can't wait to play Urban Terror in HD on the PS3, I could pack my PC away if that happened.
this would be excellent i hope it happens good luck!
Just to clear some things up:
- Linux on the PS3 can have NTFS support. Reading is fine, but writing is technically dangerous, but I have never had any problems. This will not add it to GameOS.
- Netflix streaming does not support Linux. The DRM in Silverlight has not been implemented in its open source Moonlight version (which runs on Linux). Several developers have offered to write it, but Microsoft will not give them the necessary documentation.
- You will not be able to run PS3 games in Linux. Boot to GameOS for that.
- The PS3 has only 256MB of ram. By comparison, most new computers come with between 2GB (8 times as much) and 4GB (16 times as much) of ram. This will run very slowly for many applications. Some of the graphics card's ram can be used as swap space (virtual ram), but it will still not have much.
- The PS3 has a PPC processor in it. This will not run many popular applications which are only compiled for x86 processors (the kind in your normal computer). This includes Flash Player.
- Most libraries used by media applications are not multithreaded, or at least not made to use the SPUs, so the PS3 is essentially single core when using these apps. The most popular of these libraries, FFMPEG (or libav specifically), is in the process of adding better threading and SPU support, but that is still not ready. VLC will run on this, but again, it is single threaded only.
this would be awesome it would help fix many problems with the 256 mb nand if it ran on those systems

Please! HELL YES!![]()
