Good up early this morning, and saw these nice little tid-bit, finally got released to the public by Mr. "DemonHades", so I though it would fit nicely here as new PS3 news story, since the PS3 side of this site is slow, maybe this will bring in some nice flow of new ideas and open up some possible options on the PS3.

All-tho on the newer PS3 models, the design has been changed alot, I going to look into getting hold of one of those new controller boards and see if the port can be found on the newer models.

Here is the original link to the following text, but be warned this site is super-slow and now with its new found traffic, even slower:

While checking the back of the reader PCB I saw that there are terminals without a connector, these terminals belong to a connector which connects ’something’ and through Internet I found the points used in a JTag, including the TDO, TDI, TMS etc.

I don't think it is because it says in the quote:

I hope the JTAG is found on the Slims.

At the very least, hopefully a custom firmware for the drive much like the 360 would be very much appreciated.

so with the brdisc drive almost unlocked we would be able to play psone/ps2/ps3 games from around the world?

    20gb/60gb/some 80gb ps3's to play ps2
but if someone was able to port pcsx2 for pc/linux all users might be able to play some ps2 games plus if sony's internal ps2 emulater was hacked there we go!

That would be a good question. But I doubt we'll know until (or even if) a drive firmware is created.

Just for the fun of it, the drive firmware is stored in a big 48pin BGA chip found on the drive-board which is signed, encrypted and married to your PS3 motherboard, here is the related datasheet to the 48pin BGA flash chip:

Link to PDF DataSheet ---> S29AL016D_00_A1.pdf

The firmware long long time ago, was dumped but never released.

Also there was rumors you could via a program in linux, get the PS3 to dump the on-board BGA chip containing the 2megabyte firmware.

the jtag port does provide a potential back door to hack the **firmware, bd-drive, and ect. my guess, would be that the first hack will only work for fat PS3 consoles since sony appears to update their consoles before any discoveries are found by hackers.

the 360 hack pattern could possibly be applied as well to the PS3 bd-drive but i'm hoping that our fellow hackers can infiltrate the PS3 deeper than just the bd-drive firmware alone.

i do say that this update is good news.
