Amazing day for Jailbreak PS3 owner's, just short of a day to make it a month since the news broke of PSJailbreak, and now we have this amazing news that JaiCraB has released his "USB FIRM LOADER".
What does this mean?
Well if you have a Jailbroken PS3 running v3.41 and you have the FTP server installed, you can now copy the contents of /dev_flash the good stuff that makes up your PS3 firmware, install it on a USB stick, and REBOOT into your new firmware after of course you have make the changes you wish to do.
This is the FIRST big major step towards having a "custom firmware". -- Now with this program released, developers with the knowledge of what to change, and test out various options paving the way for a release.

All that is changed the new dev_flash'll be doing really USB.
Requirements:
1: Syscall PEEK and POKE. <--- PSGroove v1.1
Installation:
1: Copy the "FTP server" the entire contents of the / dev_flash the USB (the root).
2: Copy the JaiC_USB_FIRM_LOADER.pkg also the root of the USB.
3: Install the package.
Use:
1: Insert the USB into the PS3.
2: Run USB LOADER FIRM.
3: After a few seconds will return to the XMB.
4: The new firmare is loaded.
You will see that whatever you do the USB will be launched. Ideal for amending RCO, exchange modules, as you imagine.

Do not update from USB FIRMWARE LOADER!
Whats does this mean do we still need the jailbreak dongles
after we have made the usb
Yes you do, as the new custom firmware is LOADED into RAM and the system reboots.
Nothing is written to your NAND, no changes are permanent, once you turn off the power, your PS3 is back to the way it originally was running your v3.41 firmware!
This may be what I need to fix my PS3. I can't get it to flash the firmware to anything higher than it has. 2.XX , can't remember exactly ATM.
I could dump my chips firmware data and see if it is messed up, corrupted etc.
Then of course, I'd want to compare it to a dump of the same fully working firmware, to see if there are differences.
Thanks for this tool JaiCraB!
Now all I need is a version of PSGroove that works on my firmware to get released

Does this mean we can chose to load up any firmware we want to? Including 3.42 and then revert back to whatever?
