    w1zard0f07 has released a hdldump salvage and repair tool.

    hdl_dump2 salvage and repair tools has been released (2005-08-21);
    there is a nice (and probably buggy) readme included;
    with a few words, salvage and repair tools are for... salvage and repair :-)
    basically, they allow you to restore broken APAs and to undelete games; enjoy

    any chance this can fix a HDD with a broken $ony ps2 hdd browser? - last time I upped anything with hdldump it crapped out the browser (but it still scans it and tried to run it every time the ps2 is turned on - sloooowly) and it would not reinstall - format and reinstalled and have not touched hdldump since...

    This tool just saved my hard drive. Somehow it had gotten messed up when I deleted some games, and then games that I hadn't deleted were suddenly missing...this sucked, I thought I was screwed. I saw the post for this tool before, but didn't think I needed it. I was screwed anyway, so I figured I'd give it a try...

    I put the PS2 hdd in my PC and booted up. I ran the scan using apa method, and it said something about my apa chain being invalid or damaged. I then tried the hdlsalvage without commit using both hdl and apa method. The apa method spit out a listing that had all of the games that I didn't delete minus the ones that I had deleted, and was the safer method, so I used that with the commit.

    After running the command to salvage my poor hard drive, I did an hdlls and everything was restored perfectly!

    I must say that you saved my life, err my hard drive!

    I give mad props to the w1zard0f07 for creating these tools, and to thetieger for posting them.

    Thanks again!

    Hi
    HDLDUMP / Winhiip deleted my games well I can see them if i perform a scan of the drive in winhiip but some of the files have a red cross next to them,
    Saw this tool to salvage / repair the drive but when I click any of the icons to open say the hdlscan it opens a command window then instantly closes, could someone tell me how to get this to work ? ?

    PLEASE

    Jamie

    You need to click the "Start" button and then click "Run", and type cmd and hit the enter key. In the command window, change to the drive where the hdl programs are and run from there, typing the commands as in the documentation. Example if the hdl programs were in C:\hdlprogs, you would type in the command window (after the C:\> prompt):

    C:\>cd hdlprogs
    C:\hdlprogs>hdlscan ...

    Good luck.
