My understanding is that for cfw, we would need service mode to up/downgrade but service mode doesnt allow unsigned code to be run.

i dont know much about cfw i just thought it would need to be signed for the hypervisor other wise it would reject it? see i dont know lol

You realize appldr is an ISOLATED loader right ? (if you don't, go read on isolation here: The Cell Broadband Engine processor security architecture this is a very good reading and pretty much describes the security architecture the ps3 relies upon)

You can't just "get" keys out of it....

Is there any code loaded to isolated SPEs that is not part of firmware upgrade files?

I believe most people are here to hack the ps3 and not pirate games. Pirating games comes as a bonus. What most of us want here is to make the ps3 theirs and not Sony's.

I think you are wrong.... only 20% of the people here on this board really care about the workings of the PS3, and tear apart the PS3 and learn from it. Others are just leechers and filling up their 1 Terra-byte drive's with all the games they can get. And the only bonus in their eyes is PSN access, so they can online with their pirated games on PSN.

The real exciting is that graf_chockolo is tearing this Sony machine apart, and that there are homebrew developers doing awesome things like creating emulators for NES, PS1, and Dreamcast and not a new backup manager that is only intended for piracy.

It's an inevitably of a hacked console, and if you're browsing one of these sites and are a console hacking enthusiast you shouldn't really need to get the moral book out on a well known issue. Maybe in another thread, but it's kind of a downer for those of us who are pleased at this news.

I never said i had any problems with the piracy itself (i own a JTAG 360 and a second ps3) but it's more that I would say discussions are more interesting if they are really about hacking the machine instead of how to patch game number 201

But getting games to run on lower firmwares is just as much a part of hacking the machine is it not? :/
