Piracy is a result of hacking…there really isn't any way around it even though the original PSGroove was released w/o Backup support, it was just a couple hours later that someone used a hex editor to get the backup support back…..I figure in todays world, since pretty much every console has had some piracy (even the Commodore 64 cassette tapes), its just a side-effect of hacking. As I am sure over 50% of people on here admit to pirating something in their past (copying VHS tapes? Cassette tapes? downloading music? copying a CD or DVD? that was borrowed/rented/downloaded) and at least another 30% have done it and will lie/deny it. I used to live out in the middle of nowhere where the nearest rental store was about 30 miles away and before the days of GameFly online rental. This was back in the PS1 days. I will admit to downloading games and using the swap trick. I am sure the dev teams are not promoting piracy but it does happen…they release emulators and people download ROMs, they release backup managers and people download ISOs, its just the way it is…the dev team themselves are NOT doing anything illegal by providing these programs, its the end user that is breaking the law, the end user is the one that will have the FBI or ICE or DMCAA on their butts…..

It's because he's a Sony engineer.

You can't sign ANYTHING. Read up about cryptography (here is a nice link:
Cryptography) , the ps3 uses an eccdsa (don't ask me how I know that...) signature for selfs, that's asymmetric encryption....
And no you can't just "figure how to decrypt 3.50".
Also a Custom firmware means you run (and bootstrap) unsigned code, we are certainly not there yet. (at least no one is publically there yet).
Seriously, people who don't know what they talk about shouldn't start making tons of assumptions...
i love this comment...expecially the (at least no one is publically there yet)....and yet noone else mentioned it...i think it's very odd for someone to feel like they have to put that in in there for no known reason...btw math u the man can't wait till my machine catches up to yours

Actually I would like to get my DLC back after my HDD upgrade I did over the weekend. I tried backing up everything but its asking for reactivation. Is it really so bad for me to want to get my 400$+ worth of DLC and PSN games back after my new hdd install. I think not. I put my old HDD back in for now but really want to get my 1tb put back in.

As if we owned the source code on our machines. At least that is what I believe they are talking about. If I'm wrong I apologize. So instead of seeing stuff from a hex editor side we can actually see stuff completely in C++ or whatever.
Take for instance fbanext-ps3.ppu.self That is the compiled version of the FBA homebrew source code after you run "Make". So basically with this code we can now go back to before Sony ran "Make".
lol, it's not quite that simple.
You shouln't post on things you have no idea about.
This isn't a decompiler, this basically ALLOWS code to be reversed . YOU STILL NEED TODO THE REVERSING YOURSELF.
You know like packer utilities you can get for windows\x86? They take an exe, compress it and output a self contained - self unpacking exe that unpacks at runtime and the code can't be reversed without reversing the unpacker algorithm.
Well that's what this is!!!!
Now it's at the state where reversing encrypted games\homebrew etc is feasable.

I believe most people are here to hack the ps3 and not pirate games. Pirating games comes as a bonus. What most of us want here is to make the ps3 theirs and not Sony's.

He didn't add it to imply anything. You can tell from the tone he's just calling out an idiot. And rightly so.
