Sony just went OTT, as they always do. You're making Sony seem like the victims here, painting Geohot as some dastardly villain. Hell, even APPLE didn't go all scorched earth when Geo hacked the iDevices -- no features were removed, no legion of slathering fanboys pissing and moaning, Apple just modified the bootrom and closed a few of the known exploits. It was a cat and mouse game but nobody lost, certainly not the customers who retained full functionality and with no missing features.
Sony were just being Sony as always.
"A possible hack!?! OH NO! CLOSE DOWN MADAGASCAR!"

You're argument is full of bullshit and fail, you've been beat into a corner, just accept it, Geohot didn't cause anything to be stripped out.
I have to agree with you, the Linux fanboys always keep blaming Geohot.

And I even stated in a post back then right here on the forums, that all future firmwares will do the same to phat machines, it will remove Other OS.
People flame me down like no tomorrow when I claimed that, saying "no-way" sony can't remove a feature, they can't forced the slim firmware onto the old phat ps3 owners, that is impossible we paid $600 for those machines, not $300 it will NEVER happen.
But it did, it didn't happen as fast as I thought it would originally happen, but it did, and it would had happen even if "geohot" never opened his blog up to the world, he just being used as scrapegoat by the media and Linux fanboys.
But truth is Sony did this to themselves, the "cost saving" was in the manpower, having two firmware teams, and supporting the "hypervisor" to handle both sides of the system.
I can't find the original post from a Sony exec. from the firmware team on the Linux forums now, but I remember clearly reading that he stated the reason was it was taking alot of "manpower" to keep "other os" support intact, evertime they improved some in the "gameos" it was breaking the other side, and then they had to fix up the hypervisor and see if "gameos" features were still working.
It not easy from design point to have double sandbox, two different systems working on the same hdd and same flash, one not allowing the other to talk to each other, and their own memory maps, and calls to the internal hardware, as of course they didn't want any "linux" person to gain access to stuff thru a exploit, it was already battle when they found access to the RSX thru "other os", so each time they added a new feature into the firmware "gameos" they had to make sure it was hidden from "otheros".
Since Sony wanted to move faster and faster with updates, add 3d, facebook, trophies, twitter, web browser, psn plus, they want to able to reduce any time spend bug cleaning and checking for access from "otheros" and various possible exploits, so they wanted to spend less "manpower" effort supporting the double sandbox hypervisor and just more forward on their now twice a month cycle of firmware updates.
So my point is the "cost saving" was in rolling out new updates and manpower needed to check all the new features out, they just wanted to compile and push the update to the ps3 owners, so with the slim they decided to remove "other os", and I am sure they planned to do the same later on with the phat's and then did, it was just a matter of time, nothing that anyone did like Geohot publishing his work would have stopped that from happening.
Ok, everyone, lets cut this now, and get back on topic of "decrypting" our packages with the tools supplied!
Did any kind soul explain, what could and what could not be decrypted by this?
As far as "piracy" goes, how different is PS3 from xbox360? You can have pirated games on both. I think the only thing they need to do is stop the "omg eth pirates" hysteria. Many bought their console only after it was hacked, they make some money on consoles, they sure do make good money on accessories.

if yes, we can keep 3.41 jailbreak firmware and use updated firmware with USb
if no, i think I have to wait a little time
Where comes the myth of the pure Software based PS2 Emu?

blow to geohot haters
if you write an Programm that replace the Sony Dash it can read all the keys Like Xbox 360 @ XeLL
