Not exactly. You think sony sued the psjb distributors for nothing? Any major corporation will retalliate if their product becomes compromised(especially after the epic fail sony made). They cant exactly move on to the next console if A) Their current console is still selling well B)They havent recovered all the costs of developing, manufacturing, marketing, etc. said console.

Exploit users arent a threat to sony, they are small fry(we agree on that), but hackers, that's a different story. All the fuss about exposing the ps3's weakness is bad publicity for sony, which could result in developers abandoning the console(more money out the window).
So you see dude, a little fish can cause a very big stir, and sony doesnt like that.
