The best way to prevent this in my opinion is to not care. Continue blocking it with FW updates but any console that goes online with a backed up game (Sony's new EULA states they can send updates without notification) ban the consoles and PSN name. There'll be thousands of consoles banned and thousands not banned. See Xbox 360 for example. The majority of my friends don't mod their consoles for the sole reason of "Getting Banned" and the sales and 3rd party support of the console is still excellent. You can't avoid piracy but piracy won't kill a console. Sony's just scared because they think piracy killed the PSP. No Sony, piracy didn't kill the PSP. The PSP sucking killed the PSP.

Oh well....somebody has to lead or make a stand then fellas like me follow.
they probably only care this much because they make zero money off PSN and their entire revenue stream seems to be coming from games.

There will be a time when you will have a 'change'. Everyone will. Some of us have. Just remember that when you get that knock on the door, EMP everything in your house!
I bet lawyers for Universal Studios ca. 1984 are pointing at Sony and laughing.
lol, Sony's "Betamax", i remember that junk. Sony has gone from the pirate maker to the pirate killer.

Universal Studios and the Walt Disney Company were among the film industry members who were wary of this development, but were also aware that the U.S. Congress was in the final stages of a major revision of U.S. copyright law, and would likely be hesitant to undertake any new protections for the film industry. The companies therefore opted to sue Sony and its distributors in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California in 1976, alleging that because Sony was manufacturing a device that could potentially be used for copyright infringement,
they were thus liable for any infringement that was committed by its purchasers. The complaint additionally included an unfair competition claim under the Lanham Act, but this was dismissed early in the course of the lawsuit.
Two years later, the District Court ruled for Sony, on the basis that noncommercial home use recording was considered fair use, that access to free public information is a First Amendment public interest served by this use. However, this ruling was reversed in part by the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, which held Sony liable for contributory infringement. The court also held that the Betamax was not a staple article because its main purpose was copying. It went on to suggest damages, injunctive relief and compulsory licenses in lieu of other relief.
Sony seems to have learned some hard lessons in which they now are on the front lines leading the pack.
