Within hours after Geohot releasing his working "signing tools" for his earlier v3.55 Jailbreak PUP, forum members from around the world, quickly when to work in converting the existing "homebrew" packages to be fully signed, so that can be ready to install for those that decided to jump up to the latest v3.55 firmware so they can enjoy both PSN online (for now!) and the best in "homebrew"! Even tho for now, it might mean giving up using your vast collection of "backup'ed" games on your internal or external HDD!
News Source: First signed homebrew packages released!The first signed homebrew packages are popping up on the interwebs. These packages are working on Geohot’s 3.55 Jailbroken firmware. It is now possible to be on the latest firmware, use PSN, and use all your favorite homebrew programs! This is only a few hours after Geohot released his tools for signing your own homebrew packages.
For now the most programs that have been made for 3.41 and is NOT a backup manager seem to work flawlessly on Geohot’s CFW 3.55.
* BlackB0x FTP Server
* Awesome File Manager
* Mednafen Emulator
* FCeu NES Emu
* Comgenie File Manager
For now backup managers are not working (except for Multiman, but it can launch games that support direct booting) because the syscall’s that are needed are not in Geohot’s CFW (on purpose). It will be only a matter of time before someone figures out how to create his own CFW with the syscall’s enabled.
But it seems running backups on v3.55 may be just around the corner...
News Source: Multiman (via) DukioDean who is known for his work on the popular PS3 backup manager, multiMAN has confirmed that the Direct Boot function that is already incorporated in his manager doesn’t have to use the syscalls but instead directly executes the EBOOT.BIN so that it will work without path redirection.
What does it means to the end users? For starters, when Geohot releases his tools that are needed to sign the homebrew, the multiMAN can also be signed and then the Direct Boot function can be used which means you can play backup games on Geohot’s CFW. However, not all games support Direct Boot function. Like Dean says, it’s 3 out of 10.
I posted about that couple of days ago. multiMAN’s direct boot doesn’t use syscalls, but executes the EBOOT.BIN direclty, so it will work without path redirection. Of course it will work just for couple of games (I have 10 and 3 of them work).
You need a way to make the PS3 system to execute an EBOOT.BIN, not the game itself.
