want to point out that if you don't have a dongle, you can also use a PSP with CFW. You'll also need a blu-ray movie (just realized i don't even have 1!)

UPDATE: I got this working. 40GB CECHG - CFW 3.55 To OFW 3.55 To CFW 3.41 To OFW 2.30, factory service mode, run files on USB (black screen), take out of service mode.
logic board remarried and games now loading. Not sure if all the steps is needed with my downgrade but it was my first time trying w the hardware that i have... but it worked. did not test blu ray yet, might test later as I use another system for movies anyway.

I finally have a use for this paperweight I have lying around here. I have a 60gb model sitting here just aching for a new drive. Problem is I don't have one to try this process so I am off to the eGay to find one. I knew I collected all the OFW's for a reason, I finally can use one of then 3.15, 3.41, & 3.55 finally. I will report my findings once I get a drive. I also want to test out if using this can restore bluray playback on a deck that simply didn't have bluray ability due to a previous downgrade. Nice post and find guys now we just need a 3.56 modded lv2.diag

Is it possible to semi-brick the console by upgrading to 3.55 OFW (without BD, so update will turn in loop), and put off the HD (format), put it back, and use lv2diag to unbrick, downgrade and go to service mode ?

I just put a region C (Aus) drive onto a region A console and it's working. BD playback has not been restored though. Funny thing is I have the original drive here and it has the same problem (though from the first round of downgrades that shot the DRL files)

Would it be possible to use this to get back bd playback with the drive already married to my 60gb console that lost bd playback on account of downgrading and drl creating method didn't work for me to get it back.

If someone tests this can you let us know.

Tried It myself just then Did Not Work!

So trying to remarry same drive in an attemtp to recover bd movie functionality did not work as it displayed the same old bd prohibited message.

Console was a PAL Australian CECHC02 60gb.

I just recovered a 60gb paperweight also, with a dual laser bd drive from a 80gb(16md nand). Also I can confirm that I have also recovered blu ray playback after losing it(or assumed lost) when the first downgrade surfaced. A big thanks to all the devs that made this possible.....
