SKILLZ. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO USE ANY SAVES,
CHEAT DEVICES, ETC. WITH THIS GAME BECAUSE
EVENTHOUGH RETAIL WILL HAVE MINOR FILE 
DIFFERENCES, THIS IS THE FINAL VERSION
AND EXACT SAME GAME.

BEFORE RETAIL.

I figured out that if you change the fifth octet of these two strings from 01 to 00 (just like in the JP full version) it boots and plays great! Before I made these two hex edits the game just booted to a black screen, but now boots fine. There is slight skipping of opening video but I was able to watch the whole intro and play a game. Since my ISO has hidden files I couldn't just hack the SLUS file and reinsert it, so I took a hex editor to the ISO, found the relavant hex strings and changed them directly (used Catch22's HexEdit, handles 4 gig files, right click to clear the '01' values). The two hex strings are:
10 00 04 ae 01 00 04 24 06 04 11 0c 14 00 02 ae
^^ (make that into 00)
06 04 11 0c 01 00 04 24 3c 00 40 54 2d 10 00 00
^^ (make that into 00)
I saved it, copied it over using WinHiip 1.7.6, and booted with HDLoader 0.8b with the anti hd freeze fix (fully patched). It plays ok with no modes but I THINK it skips slightly less with 1 & 3 (didn't experiment to confirm) so thats what I've been using. Good luck! BTW - I bought the the metal box version of this game, and you should too. All of the stuff that comes with it is pretty slick

I don't see a reason to complain, as you're getting a free patch with little to no work involved.

The first time I already knew the news before it was posted on the scene

But this shit is real. I still can't believe it. And to think about it, the author of the patch made the patch 2 weeks!!!! before the FFXII was downloadable for the common man. I mean, man, thats quick!
