You people are idiots. All geohot cares about is getting fame. (Why do you think people call him egohot?). What fail0verflow want is an open system. Geohot has a tendency to release things early just because he can and he doesn't even think of the consequences. (Remember when Sony removed OtherOS?) The reason fail0verflow (and this goes for iDevice hacking as well) hadn't released anything was because they were making it ready for the public. Geohot, who only cares about the credit, releases these things and all these stupid news sites go crazy for it. Are you guys really gonna forget the fact that geohot claimed to have a CFW with OtherOS? Geohot is full of shit, he just wants fame. You guys think marcan is whining but really, geohot has screwed people over before. Even with regard to the Wii scene, Waninkoko's work was nothing compared to Team Twiizers.
All you pirates may not care about running Linux, but if you've learned anything over the past 10 years then you'd know that piracy will find a way sooner or later (see the 27c3 Console Hacking talk). What Team Twiizers and fail0verflow are doing is keeping the system open without adding to piracy. Someone will most likely step up and do the dirty work, but they shouldn't be praised for that. All the hard work has been done for them so that's why marcan and others say stuff like that.

team failoverflow is whining about getting credit? i didnt see them give any credit to psjailbreak. cause before they came along ps3 hacking was at a stand still so is it a "coincedence" that after psjailbreak released the exploit that they were able to implimint thiers?

Although yes i do agree with your response, you do not need to call everyone idiots. But what has marcan's whining got him? Not respect from anyone, no matter what his intent was. Yea we know what geohot is like, no point fighting it, just move on with your own work.

Difference between keys and info how to find them is like difference between a toy car and a Porsche. He owed team fail0verflow yet he didn't even mention them in the beginning.
Fair enough he should have given credit, but its not something worth getting worked up about if i were them.
It is, as fame is all they get for hard work.
But then on the other hand, i think its Geohot trying to get back in the scene since his fails after his initial hpervisor exploit way back.
He got all he wanted => the fame, he won't do muc now, as there are no spots to shine.

Marcan is just mad because his team has no idea how Geohot managed to get those keys. Geohot provided the hack everyone has been waiting for and released it publicly, not saved it for some big gala event overseas to make himself look like a bigshot. Just like they always do, Marcan's team wanted to ration little bits of information out to everyone to stroke their own egos. The only people who complain about Geohot's supposed ego are the ones who don't want to admit he's a better hacker than they are.

I was only calling them idiots because they're picking sides and not even looking at facts. They're praising Geohot for his "work" when most of it was already done. Sure he did the original hardware glitch, but that led to a whole lot more than just opening the system. I suppose you're right about moving on.

Frankly I don't care about geohot's intent or if he's just seeking scene cred. Having the appldr keys opens more doors than just piracy. Sure it's not needed for getting linux on there but maybe some of us homebrew devs would like to write apps that work as-is without requiring people to blow away their gaming platform and which will continue to work with future fw updates. The fact is this information is useful to us, so we are thankful. Fail0verflow's work is also useful, so we are thankful. There's nothing wrong with being thankful for help even when the person providing it may just be scenewhoring (if that is the case). If Satan came up here tomorrow and took away all of life's stresses without requiring my soul in exchange, I would still be thankful. It would be foolish not to be.

What story were you reading? Marcan knows exactly how geohot did it because it's a similar exploit that they used. Geohot calculated the keys exactly how fail0verflow showed him how to. Geohot once again released it early just for the fame. Marcan's team wanted it ready for the public, not for all the fame and whatnot. Geohot doesn't have a supposed ego; he has a big ego. He is not the best hacker in the world, nor is marcan but you gotta give credit where credit is due, instead of stealing someone's work to gain fame.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, it's the information we are thankful for, not the persons involved or the politics behind them. It can be argued that it's better to wait until things are 'ready' for prime time before releasing them but it can also be argued that getting everything you can out there early lets more eyes go over it and develop more than one solution. Competition is a good thing for innovation. If you disagree with that then move to North Korea or some other communist state.
