Today E3DIY.net the makers of the E3 Card Reader have improved their E3 downgrader firmware, to fix some console's Blu-Ray Movie Playback problem!
Please NOTE: This is a BETA version and also is ONLY for the E3 Card Reader!
Here is the updated steps:
1: Copy "e3downgrader fix BD beta.bin" into E3 upgrader disk!
2: Insert E3 Card Reader into PS3 Right-Most USB port (near BD drive).
3: Jailbreak PS3 the normal way (power then eject), after few seconds, the console will auto shutdown.
4: Remove E3 Card Reader from PS3, and reset console, it will now enter the Factory/Service mode.
5: Continue with the rest of the normal downgrading steps, using the leaked DGF.rar package.
What is the difference with old original E3downgrader firmware?
After the Power/Eject cycle with the old downgrader firmware, and most of the cloned downgrader firmwares it will continue to allow the PS3 to power-up until the full PS3 XMB menu boots-up, this was the point were the Blu-Ray Movie playback got destroyed.
With our new E3 Downgrader firmware, it cause the PS3 to switch off right away after doing the Factory/Service handshake without booting into the XMB menu, protecting the contents of your flash.
Anyone with a PS3 FAT and E3 Card Reader? Can you test this method and confirm?
Does this fix users who have already run the first downgrade that removed BD Movie functionality? Or is only for those who haven't already attempted downgrade through previous methods?
If you have an E3 and FAT PS3 please test the method above, post here and join #PS3bluray on EFNet IRC.
Hopefully this is not fake like the eclips3 claim..
Hmmm, I have the psgrade ps3yes hex for my blackcat and it shuts the ps3 console down after the service mode handshake. I in the end still had to restore my backup of dev_flash3 to get it working. So, in other words I don't think this new beta bd fixer is going to change a thing. This will still cause problems with fat consoles that have larger nands.
I want to try it, but I don't want to sacrifice my bd-playback on my jailbroken console as a test. Anyone with a console shop that has already informed the end user that they'll lose their bd-playback want to try it?

I going to test it myself later, just swamped with repair work, just got in and already have a dozen PS3 machines to repair.
I don't see how it will fix already damaged machines, but it makes sense on preventing damage to new PHAT machines on downgrading.
The above post is from my best at translating all the chinese and chatting with the E3 designers themselves which their english is not very good.
But they seem for sure on their theory on what is happening, and so far seem to be the only dongle maker I talked to that is serious in fixing this issue that PHAT PS3 owners have with Blu-Ray movie playback.
I never had a full boot to the xmb when downgrading my 60GB CECHCA0, so i have a feeling this is another one of "those" fixes.
My E3 will arrive in a few days, so sure i will test it, but i guess someone will do it earlier
I used the Dingoo to get into factory mode.
- It powers off the PS3 directly after pressing Power/Eject, it's not booting the XMB...
- after downgrading with the .PUP and self files on the USB device the PS3 powers off.
- getting out of factory mode with self file, the PS3 powers off.
Nowhere in these procedure the PS3 gets fully booted to the XMB, unless you do it yourself...
That means ANY JIG-downgrader could avoid destroying BD playback, DO NOT enter XMB in factory mode, just plug the USB flash with lv2diag.self and .PUP after the first shutdown from normal XMB.
anyway, thanks for E3 team finding out this method.
