Good news from the DMS team

Many thanks to Fat Mike we have been able to inspect the FF11 Beta kit ourselves. Thank you very much Fat Mike for giving us a helping hand. For our dedicated members who are still awaiting a fix for your beta HDD kits Please be sure your firmware is upgraded to 1.6C and use the fastboot method to boot your backups. We have already tested this and it works with no flaws whatsoever. This is just a quick fix until we resolve the issues with the new hdd browser.

yeah very good news...but does anyone know when the HDD kit will be released in the UK for the PS2? Or is it already out in the form of the Linux kit? I just thought there would be 2 releases of the HDD...the linux kit version and the more gaming oriented version...

there isn't an official confirmation that FF11 will be released in eu regions...
I don't think sony will release the HDD before there are games which support it... and we're talking about the beta here (comes with FF11 beta) and about the gaming oriented version, not the linux kit...

FFX has been out for quite a long time, now. Still no HDD in sight. I am so going to cry.

btw, would a European HDD work in a Japanese PS2 anyway?

Yes, but they are talking about the PS2 Gaming HDD, not the Linux HDD that comes with the Linux kit. The Linux kit comes with just a standard HDD that can be used in any IDE-compatible PC device, and PS2 Linux just formats it as an ext2 partition.

As for the gaming HDD, Magic 3.1 does not conflict with it, does it?! Does the Beta Kit HDD have an HDD browser added to the browser screen? Also, do we get to keep this beta HDD? Thanks!

There is an added browser for the HDD with the Beta kit. And after the beta period, beta tester are asked to return everything to Sony but Sony will offer us a retail PS2 HDD free of charge.

So we have to return the original Beta HDD and software, and they send us a rebate for a free retail one? Sweet!

Well, I think they send you the retail HDD, not just a rebate for a free one.
