Crystal Chip firmware source code out now
Crystal Chip firmware source code out now –
The Crystal Team has released the source code to allow people to make their own firmware for their CC1.0 homebrew modchip. here's a quote from their news:
update: a firmware has already been released that loads backups! Read in for more info!
We've uploaded the initial release of our CC1.0 firmware source code
. We will continue to update the source as time goes by, but for now feel free to download it and experiment.
Sourcecode for MODCHIP firmware? Whoa. The possibilities are endless. I like this concept, as it brings a whole new level of development options to the scene, as well as letting amateur coders make their own firmware for booting backups (which is inevitable, obviously.)
Now all I have to do is grab the sourcecode and look for the line that says:
"BOOT BACKUP DISCS=0"
In a 32-bit world, you're a 2-bit user,
You've got your own newsgroup: alt.total.loser!

Mega Memory 16
HDLoader Selfboot via DMS3
HDLoader "Official" disc
HDLoader "cracked" disc
seriously, its so damn easy for someone to make firmware to boot backups. everything is commented and tiny.
Hypothetically*coughcough* speaking, If I *HAD*coughcough* figured out how to modify the code and *WOULD*coughcough* say so in this forum, would this get me banned?
i dunno, never thought of it. however, we have had people attach dms firmware here before. I guess i dont see the big deal with it. Still with the click of the batch file anyone including n00bs could compile it. So to be on the safe side someone could just simply post their source changes instead. this would leave the responsibility on the user to compile and run the firmware.
Just dont go posting any ghost2 firmware please
ok, here's the output from diff:
(edit: instead of replacing line 244 by "nop", you can of course just remove it completely)
$ diff ps2boot.s new/ps2boot.s
< bnez v0, _done
> b _done
< beqz v0, _noAuth
NOTE: This _SHOULD_ work. It's untested. It's also a quick hack, only making minimal changes to the code and having most of the "force homebrew" code (string comparison) still executed. It doesn't matter, but it's not a very clean solution.
I can't test it right away because my PS2 and proper tools are like, 9000km far away from me until March *sob*. (Let alone a Crystal Chip. But I think I can safely order one now. ^_-)
LOL this was just released and there are already contributors hehe.
btw for future reference you can post the entire .S file here. Just no compiled stuff i guess.
Note: In case you are unable to update the firmware, please refer to http://www.crystal-chips.com/forums/...p?showtopic=13
The flash utility looks for AUTOBOOT.CCI instead of FIRMWARE.CCI as it seems, and there also is a hardcoded absolute path in ps1logo.s.
very cool stuff. I'm going to have to get a crystal chip and rip out my matrix infinity!
