CONFIRMED - Sony issuing Cease & Desist Letters to Vendors of HD Loader
CONFIRMED - Sony issuing Cease & Desist Letters to Vendors of HD Loader –
After speaking with a reliable source, it is indeed true that Sony is issuing Cease & Desist letters to vendors selling the HD Loader. At least 2 Vendors have been issued the letter and promptly removed their goods from their sites and/or shutdown operations. A copy of the C&D letter could not be obtained, due to the current litigations that person is facing and fear of it causing more damage to their individual case.
The crackdown was mostly due to the release of the HD Loader and its ability to circumvent the standard copy-protection of PS2 Games and allowing users to copy their games, without owning a legal copy of the game, onto the official Sony HDD or User-installed Hard Drives connected to the Sony Network Adapter.
More news as it develops....
It was only matter of time.
Yeah.. but it wont stop the development of future releases.. oh looks like LOD is out a vendor.
i knew it was too good to be true, well to good would mean, ALL games work
Maybe we will start seeing some good home brew programs now. I am surprised that this was a program that you had to pay for in the first place. When they came out with programs to copy game to the HD on Xbox they didn't do this. perhaps because they couldn't, but you get my point.
I agree with the phoenix, people can modify their games on their xbox and put in cheat edits etc and with the ps2 we can't do that... we have to use gameshark and action reply stuff. I am surpised that gameshark and action reply programs are not freeware in the first place. Xbox users are lucky they can make cheats edits and we have to buy programs like GS/AR/CB/Xploder/Xplorer how sad.
yup, sad, just like we buy games...

It was going to happen
It was going to happen –
Sooner or later they would get around to do this. Specially since they are charging money for the product. That just made them "more visible" to Sony's lawyers. Hopefully we'll get more free tools that can do the same or better. It's just a matter of time. PS2 is not a Xbox. Xbox is A LOT easier to hack, since it is a modified PC and runs code hackers know very well.
Question is though...how long till they move past retailers? Do you think any of the businesses will give out the info of those people who purchased HDLoader in exchange for Sony going lighter on them? Also, what does this mean for Sjeep? Think he might be next for Sony to go after? Retailers can't be the only ones Sony is taking to court...
Tools need to spread
Tools need to spread –
How long to get past retailers? tough question, but my guess would be not too long. Which is why it is important to spread the tools as fast as possible. If they want the links down in a forum, people can still email to each other Regarding the businesses giving out info to Sony about who bought the tool, who cares! You can't play online with a copied game anyways! What you do to your PS2 is nobody else's business, not even Sony! They can only go after the people making the tools and the ones selling/posting them online. If I email you a tool, they won't know about it
