Yep, I do do some server programming on the side for "private game servers" (RO and WoW), coded bots for FFXI, RO and EQ, but I've never been paid a cent to do so, shit's a hobby, it's fun, but it doesn't pay. I would never charge a cent for any of my hobby stuff (hey, like your music sko!) But would be ****ing livid if another school started using my stuff. I work for one of the largest colleges in the states numbers wise, and front-end and DB we use is..... different.... to code for, most schools stick to a nearly out of the box system that's got a few custom screens and fields, with a few tweaks here and there, whereas we've rewritten nearly half of the tables and processes (making upgrading a bit nerve wracking), but I digress.... Die is right, to a lot of us, games, the scene and such isn't a job, it's a hobby. The guys working for software companies? that's their job, I wouldn't want to shit on em' just for a free game. (Especially if I like it, you want more GOOD games from GOOD companies, right? Not just Madden 2013, and Sims 7;

I remember pirating Leisure suit larry back in the 1980s...and really loving it, and then feeling really guilty that I pirated it...I was 7 years old and I was thinking I should mail Sierra some money...then I was afraid if I mailed it, they'd find out I pirated it and then I would get arrested by the FBI....I was an odd kid I guess.

Not really odd, funny story though. I remember having the same feeling after my pirated copy of lemmings for the amiga.
