It looks like ps3 media server![]()
What about, Pros/Cons of this vs ps3 media server? Anyone have any, as I of course, like lost must be swayed from Universal Media Server with ps3 media server as I am unsure of why to switch... This is not meant to be rude or discouraging. Just an honest question.
Ps: I currently use ShowTime, Ps3 media server and am very open to trying Universal Media Server. Just looking for more info.
Hi guys, I'm the lead developer for UMS, thanks for the question and thanks Tranced for the article.
UMS is built on top of PMS and we keep updated with their code (though we manually choose it, to avoid the bad stuff), so anything they introduce that is stable is already in UMS. We also have a lot of extra features they don't have. At the moment I think our best feature is that as of 1.5.2 we have a custom version of FFmpeg that should have perfect video/audio sync for every file, whereas the version that PMS uses is buggy.
We also have a Plugin Installer feature, which allows you to download and install plugins within the program automatically. Then there's our True Motion feature which allows people with older TVs to display the smoother framerates that new TVs allow. Then there is the faster version of MEncoder. Plus lots of layout and settings improvements, lower memory use, so I think there is a lot to make UMS a better choice, in my biased opinion![]()
i would love to try this but i don't know how to use this im a newb @ this any help would be greatly appreciated thanks![]()
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
I really do think Serviio Media Server works better than this, tried ps3 media server and UMS along with others. Serviio just offers more online plugins and works much more faster loading onto ps3. The menu system is alot easier too.
i dropped my ps3 as a streaming device, and switched to a cheap WDTV live .. works flawlessly , thanx SubJunk
lunacryed: It works straight away most times with no configuration
GalaxyS3: I've heard Serviio is great but either doesn't support subtitles or just some types of subtitles. I think Universal Media Server has more features. If you have any suggestions about the UMS menu system please let us know
hey69: Glad to hear it, cheers![]()
