Whenever, I boot a game that uses ext game data the ps3 game is also on external with external and ext game data checked off in multiman so it automatically switches to usb mode to run game and when game data is installed it is installing from dev_usb000/GAMES/BLXXxxxxx to dev_usb000/GAMEI and after I exit game, while still in usb mode i run fix file permissions and return to hdd mode and it displays as greyed out in game data utility (but present) in hdd mode and displays with picture in game data utility while in usb mode. And, it works fine for a while but eventually, after I do it with more and more games it eventually makes me reinstall game data for the ones I've installed game data for one by one from the ones that been installed the longest amount of time ago first. It seems like there is not enough room in my index file to handle all of the file paths to my game data folders. I would just edit the file with a hex editor if that would work, But, even with hex editor I can't make heads or tails out of it because it's like things are being cut off. For example in hex editor a couple of the lines in order look like this:
00 00 00 00 50 73 33 53 61 76 65 44 00 00 00 00 ....Ps3SaveD....
00 03 5E C0 47 61 6D 65 4C 69 73 74 00 00 00 00 ..^AGameList....
Those lines are for Offeset (h) 00000140 and 00000150 in that order. As you can see there where it is supposed to say Ps3SaveData it is cut off and the next line does not correspond to the previous line and it's like that for a good majority of the hex and it doesn't look like most other hexes I've run into in the past. However, I am still somewhat new to hex editing still. And as for ext game data not being compatible with certain games as far as I know that concerns like psn type games and obviously games that use split or big files which that is not the problem I am facing now. This has been happening since did a rebuild of my database. Since then, I have fixed every other issue except for this one. My console is completely back to the way it should be except this issue. I was just really hoping there would be a simple fix to this issue like editing an index or a reg key to include my filepaths. Thank you very much for your reply. You more than likely saved me hours and hours of a headache of me trying to figure out how to edit this file to fix the problem which wouldn't have been able to work anyway. But, do you think a reg edit my fix this? If so, do you have any idea what key I should look for? I'll check with Jay Jay and se if maybe he knows what could be causing this and if he knows a way to fix it. I'm just really hoping for a method that doesn't involve reinstalling game data for each game all over gain. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
send me your file and I'll take a look at it but I think your file might be corrupted and need to be reindexed. Right now there's no good tool to read and edit this file on pc outside of a hex editor. Hopefully aldostools can come up with something useable. Like I said, I don't use external game data and Jay-Jay would be the man to ask about that. I'm not a programmer and at the end of the day just another gamer. I can read code a hell of a lot better than I can write it

Thank you very much for taking the time to look at my file.
I don't know if you wanted the metadata _ db _ hdd or the metadata_db_hdd . i d x so I uploaded them both. Sorry about all of the spaces. I just finally became a member here and it won't let me put any links or send attatchments or messages until either 30 days or 30 posts.
What I have just noticed though tonight is that when I boot a ps3 game from multiman with external and ext game data selected, when I return to xmb to boot the game, if I look in the folder where my game data tool is, it shows a usb stick next to it, but it says hdd. But, PSN games on xmb that are only on usb are still playable. So, it is correctly accessing usb even though it says hdd next to it and game still runs while game data is in dev_usb000/GAMEI without having to reinstall game data (for now anyay, as the problem has been it seems to be happening as I install new game data the oldest game data has to be reinstalled again, about one goes missing for every new game I install game data for). But, when I'm in HDD mode on xmb and use game data tool to switch from hdd to usb the game data tool says usb next to it when its in usb mode. I tried reinstalling ext game data loader and then reinstalling GameData2 . P K G to fix it so it will display usb next to the tool when I run a ps3 game with ext game data but its still doing the same thing. Before, I did a rebuild of my database my game data wasn't going missing like this, but I also did have as many games on usb using ext game data then either. And, I don't remember if the game data tool would dispaly hdd next to the usb stick picture on game data tool when running game with ext game data. Also, I have swapped from a 500GB ext hdd to a 2TB ext hdd shortly before the database rebuild. I don't know if any of that could have anything to do with this situation, but if you have any ideas I would very much appreciate any input you could give. Thank you so much for helping me out with this situation.
I got a headache trying to read your large paragraphs. You should try to break them up into smaller ones so its easier for the reader to be able to digest it. Please start a new topic in the Backup Games sub-forum. http://psx-scene.com/forums/ps3-game-backup/
And please don't write too much to explain. Just start the topic and I will then ask you some "fill in the gap" questions. I did see some inconsistencies in your steps.. so I think I may be able to help you learn how to do this properly.
