My thoughts are you are doing a great job.
Yeah, I really don't get what all the drama is about. You don't like True Blue? Don't buy one. It's that simple. No need to spill unrespectful comments into the forums.
Great article it just sums up how the current scene is. Keep it up tthousand
Love this site. Most everyone here is willing to help and get involved in some way. Couldn't ask for a better community.
I dont post often. but I believe me to be a long time scene member. By long time. I mean as old as some of the members here claim to be. yes Reading the C64 hactro scrollers. involved in the postal trade system, and even the C64/amiga bbs days.
I've seen the raise and fall and sometimes the joining of many scene groups
yes I remember when razor and 1911 where seperate groups...
My thoughts about this whole ps3 scene today is. well its full of kids. all wanting things for free or those that pay for an item then expect help and support should automatically be given.
I feel we need to go back to the early days. I dont mean C64 / amiga times.
althou it would be very nice those days are long behind us. but more the Xbox 1 times when Team eXecuter would release the bios. and then help to flash to any number of mod chips. when MS found a way around the quick install (with 1.6 boards) many teams worked togather to fix and bring an easy rebuild board.
then the law steped in and made the bios from TE illegal to sell on chips. so Cromwell steped in and made a unix only bios, which could be flashed to any of the current chips on the market but without any lawfully protected code. which could in turn be flashed to any bios after sales.
Now there was never any of the hostility back then that exists today. every small development was welcomed, and if the thoughts where incorrect or just plain silly. then people in the know would take the time to explain why it was incorrect, and maybe lead to other ideas which yeiled great breakthoughs.
Personally.. I think this dongle war is silly. the code should be made available to all sceners equally. whilst I understand there may be a need to keep this secret from sony. the availability of said code may lead to even greater things then just being able to play the newer games. just like the xbox 1 (I still say
XBMC back then was/is the greatest piece of homebrew ever created).
and yes. I know my spelling sux. but I dont really care.
just my thoughts... I've wanted to post something like this for a while. but never really seen a post suitable to tag onto.
PS. TThousand Your doing a great job at trying to moderate this place. Never doubt that
i remember when psx-scene was psgroove. o the atb days.lol
best site and a willingness to not only help but takes it one step forward.
(even when u make an ars out of yourself) lol
My only problem with your article is this:
"...more of a bad reputation all because of one(or two) device(s) (and no; this is not another TB article) that unlock certain features normal CFW does not have access to..."
I feel this is a misleading statement. Sounds like their DRM is being called a "feature" - there's nothing you can do with TB that you can't do on CFW, other than play games THEY have given you the eboot for (I emphasize 'THEY', because there's no other source for an eboot of a 3.6+ game with like 2 or 3 exceptions). Sure, "having eboots" is sorta a feature, but it's a feature of the company; not the dongle. If the company ever goes under, eboots will surely stop that day (while the dongle will still perform normally).
Good read, but I already knew this.
@GhaleonX - Anti cloning protective measures have been in place in many types of "scene/modification" related products in the past and more then likely will be in the future. There's nothing wrong with trying to make sure your device isn't copied and the DRM doesn't hinder the operation of the Dongle or your PS3 (unless you're using a clone). Examples being Dark_Alex's PSP CFW, XBOX1 Modchip BIOS, PS2 Modchip Firmwares and Nintendo DS Flashcards. If you're going to argue about DRM make sure to include these devices as well.
This is a pretty good description on how we are divided now: "and then, it turned into a lot of ungrateful, greedy, disrespectful people overpopulating the threads. That is when we first started seeing a separation in the community: Elitists, Pirates, Lurkers, and those who remained true to the PS3 scene staying neutral (among others)."
