Just because they are part of the group does not mean they are the ones responsible for this particular restriction. For all we know, they could have fought against it.

wow sony just wants to fail... so new ps3s: no jailbreak cuz of new hardware No linux cuz of no jailbreak still only 2 usb ports still no ps2 bc no mem card slots still same ugly design NOW ONLY HDMI no more av connection (so you need a hdtv) STILL ONLY WIRELESS G (crap at streaming hd movies) i use a hd pvr to record stuff on ps3/360 its component only so why would i want to buy a new ps3? i know people out there that dont care about hd & still own sdtv's... and tbh most people dont care bout hd the 360 slim has turned into an older ps3 only really cheap its got wireless n, its alot more reliable & alot more usb's... ps3 is probably the first console to actually have downgraded in features over the years. ps3 was a fail from the beginning & will continue to be because sony have lost their mind.

DVI is identical to hdmi, without sound <.<

NOW ONLY HDMI no more av connection (so you need a hdtv)
Might want to reread it. This doesn't affect people using sd tvs with composite cables (or composite cables with hdtvs for that matter). This only affects people using component cables, with an hdtv.

In fact, I see more HDTVs with HDMI and VGA instead of HDMI and DVI.

Lol ! Stop blaming Sony for everything... this one is out of their hands. I wonder how they were able to ship without complying with the AACS terms earlier considering all blu-ray players must. Anyways, all of us here already have one so we needn't worry. Moreover , why would a person buy a PS3 and play the game over component and on an SD TV ? o.O
So you think EVERYBODY with a PS3 has a HDTV? Really. I've had my PS3 connected to an SDTV for a good 3 years before I put it on a HDTV. Almost all of my friends with a PS3 use SDTV instead of HDTV with their PS3. And the PS3 wasn't shipped as a bluray player. It was shipped as a game console. Stop supporting them over these petty acts.

This has nothing to do with SDTVs. If you're not displaying HD this won't affect you. This makes it so that displaying HD video over analog cables, such as component, will no longer be possible. It will deliberately degrade you to SD. The idea is that Hollywood doesn't want HD going over a signal that can't be encrypted, so they force everyone to display HD over encrypted digital cables. This is, of course, stupid, as someone else pointed out that direct Blu-Ray ripping has been possible for a long time. This is yet another way media companies are making the legitimate customers pay the penalty while the pirates won't even notice. And before you say Sony isn't responsible for this, remember that Sony is also Sony Pictures.
