Nintendos (all of them) are hacked into oblivion, somehow they are still profitable.
Xboxes were hacked like from day one - no big deal.
And suddenly PSP is a fail because of... piracy?
And suddenly PS3 being cracked is a big deal?
How come?
Maybe, instead of wasting billions on cluster**** protection mechanisms and army of laywers it's better to spend it on, uhm, console/game development, dear Sony?
Most guys whom I know would NEVER EVER bought PS3 if it wasn't hackable. So what exactly does Sony lose by this kind of piracy please? On the opposite: they should be making a few pennies on console hardware, a few bucks on accessories, plus PS becoming more popular.
wow looks like sony is going all out, how about instead of wasting a bunch of money trying to find/identify every single person that has hacked/jailbroke there ps3 system and spend your money on your next console. Get over it sony.
The Play Station was hacked rather soon ater its release. As soon as it was almost everyone I knew bought one. They had loads of copied games too, but they all BOUGHT the ones that they thought were awesome. I'm absolutely certain that the cracking of the original Play Station 14 years ago was probably one of the best things to happen to Sony's foray into the world of gaming.
The Play Station was cool. That's why you had one. Then you got the massive pile of copies. Then you went and bought the ones that you were a 'fan' of.
What's happened to the fan status now? People who think a game is so cool that despite already having it for free they go and buy it so they have a 'real' one, and a big poster and a t shirt and other stuff... because it's cool.
Even though people can get games for free, they will buy more because they are more likely to come across those games they find irresistable. It would work exactly as it did with the very first Play Station, only better, because Sony have the PSN as an incentive. If you want to play your copies, go for it, if you want to play online pay for the real thing and knock yourself out. Easily implemented by a check of game authenticity, on a game-by-game basis PSN access is either granted or denied.
The laws of intelectual property seem to omit one thing from their construction, intention. I know there are games i will never buy, so if i have a copy of something and i play it i havent taken anything from them because they would never recieve something from me for it. So i just wouldnt play it if i didnt have it and would never go out of my way to obtain it. I would just play something else. If they could use the concept of intention in their machinations then they would see that what i'm giving them is a perspective that would yeild them a greater amount of revenue. And.. above all would regain their 'cool' status, because lets face it, this little tantrum they've thrown has lost them that and 'being cool' earned them near god-like status with the Play Station and even the PSP to some extent.
Come on Sony, see the bigger picture, you can easily make a much bigger market impact and even topple the 360 on its home turf. You just need to accept that people need to find the games that they feel they cant be without and no amount of trailers or game demos will do that. You already know this because you were the people behind the Play Station Revolution. Be cool again and the community you're fighting will work for you.
And to others reading.. spread the word!
Did they already forgot the PSjailbreak case? :rolleyes:Quote:
Sony recently took famed iPhone hacker George Hotz to court after he and another group of hackers unlocked the PlayStation 3's security and later published the data online. Since then, homebrew applications to run pirated software have hit the net,
I mean... The homebrew applications to run pirated software originally comes from there.
YOU SIR: I AGREE WITH ALL OF THE ABOVE. it's exactly as you stated. for ps1 and ps2 games (not as much ps2) i normally had copies of games i rented, but i ALWAYS bought the awesome games that had the best replayability. and there's NO DOUBTING physical authentic media is the best. something you CANT pirate. they just don't seem to understand..
i swear sony love to make the wrong moves they should look at what we want evaluate and see what they can add instead they take away otherOS and ultimatly brought the whole mess on them selves
oh hell yea I am going to apply. if turk aint get the job already
Oh so Sony is hiring hackers to hack into our systems, to find our personal data? Is that even allowed?
Just goes to show how ****ed this world is, getting local law enforcement on the scene for ip addresses downloading a pirated game........for **** sakes there's bigger issues going on in the world on a much more serious level, war, crime, poverty, etc. But Sony's goal to change the world is to catch a handful of people that may download a game or two. ****ing sad if you ask me Sony, your company need to get it's priorities right. Other companies know what happens to their consoles but they just get on with without trying to ruin lives of people that have lawfully bought their consoles but decided to make a few changes to it. Rant over.....sony are a bunch of dickheads, desperate & clutching onto anything they can get their teeth into.
