Agree with VanFinale. Sony could have done something in order to keep linux as a feature in the PS3 instead of removing it. This made the PS3 not stand out compared to other gaming consoles.
The fact that it requires breaking security to run linux or any homebrew leads to another gateway to piracy....
And also even with linux activated like before it will be used as a backdoor for security breaks and evil hacks. If you were sony, what would you do?
If you want home brew use a real computer. Sad but true. What else are u going to do than play games that were illegal at some point a while ago?
No, please don't start taking QJ's news articles, please don't.
Get your own source.
I can't stand QJ
yep all bs, sony is just scared of the Lulz
well, i do have email from sony stating its not illegal to CFW a ps3.
i also do know that Sony had an agreement with IBM that had to do with only allowing part of the memory..etc of the linux open. This was all to classify the ps3 as a computer system for tax reasons to begin with. the ps3 is still classified as a computer system even with removal of linux. Sony was threatened by breach of agreement of thier license to allow computer product operating systems with IBM on the PS3 when the whole....we can gain access to the full memory allotment. This basically was an either...pay up some money...or take away linux to the company. Basically they did the cheaper option. By removing this feature without letting the user know, would be a breach of the computer security acts in several countries. This is why in the later EULAs, they do not state linux will be removed after 3.21 but any and all features are subject to change at a whim and may or may not function (to cover that clause).
Is it fair if someone goes from 3.0 to 3.65 and doesnt know Linux will disappear? no. Does Sony care enough to put on the boxes what firmwares the products are made with, since they supposedly allow optional updates? no. they figure...even if the customer has purchased a product they wouldnt have due to the FW box listing, the customer optioned not to play the game....they have thier money, why should they bother?
I think we should make the gaming society label the firmwares...just like the ratings of movie, parental advisories on tv, audio, and yes... like the ratings on the games already.
that is if you FORCE to use a certain firmware. if you do not force updates, no need for FW notices. oh and ....you cant play this game if you dont update = forced update to play.
