Kermit (protocol) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is a very old communications protocol that was used when 2600 baud modems were used to connect to remote computers and/or networks aka Bulletin Board Systems (BBS). It is on a BSS (pre-world wide web) when I found my first GB MONO ROM image - no emulator(s) were out yet. It was for a Bung game copier. The protocol was used to upload/download files to the BBS "Downloads" section and was later replaced by faster and better protocols such as ZMODEM as bits per second increased hardware wise with modems 9600, 144400, 56k bps, etc ... (Evolution and Selection of File Transfer Protocols).
I remember transferring Thermodynamics programs & a funny star trek tricoder program to my HP 48SX & GX calculators using Kermit in the early 90's
