If I am not mistaken...most of these features don't require the dongle? Just the PS1/PS2 iso support and play from network support require it.
The worst part is hearing all the buttmad coming from that clown that just keeps releasing updates to his Service Mode app and cramming the description full of fail and aids about how he's "coming" for the dongle makers... you know, the guys actually helping this scene survive. Long live the Cobra. Long fail the haters. Nobody's fooling anybody here.
I was gonna ask the same thing but decided not to engage him. I think he's confused about who develops Cobra and multiMAN. They are not related. Also talking about that release (whatever it was) that had the picture of the mongoose's facing a cobra and a rant something to the effect of we're coming for you (to the cobra team). Again - not related. I would like to know what buttmad means though. Is that anything like cooter crazy?
There is 4.00 SDK leak !!! Anyone cares to make this as news ?
You know the PS3 Scene is a bit different from others due to the fact the majority of the users have flashed a custom firmware to their PS3 and a handful of people who aren't cheapos have spent their money on the E3 Flasher which by all means seems to be the way to go. ModRobert from Eurasia mentioned recently why he doesn't understand that the PS3's BD-ROM drive hasn't been exploited which in his and my opinion would simply allow you to boot any game you desire as if the PS3 thinks the disc is legit, but there are all these "firmware" checks built in so the tried and true method doesn't seem like it would fly.
Your best bet is to get the E3 Flasher or two PS3's. I've not modded my PS3 and I'm still running the original OtherOS, but it would be nice to have a stand alone HDTV mkv/avi/etc... player so I'm considering purchasing a second PS3 and keep it up-to-date and finally modding the 3.15 I have now.
However, I can't really grasp the general dislike for these "Dongle" devices as when all is said and done without the original Dongles that no one really had a problem paying for led to CFW. My conclusion is that people are so cheap they won't invest in something that will expand the functionality of their PS3 whether that expansion is the ability to play PS2/PSP games or boot an ongoing list of 3.56+ games.
Take the cost of a PSP and the PS2 console hardware and compare it to the Cobra Dongle and it's a no brainer. The only valid excuse I see on why people who not want this device is they do not desire it's extra features. There seems to be an overwhelming sense of hate coming from a select few websites against Dongle's and none of it makes any sense to me, but hell, I've been around the block enough to not really care and to see these fools as they are. They are young, cheap and ignorant to many things and want everything on that silver platter. Heh, that's not going to happen and all they are accomplishing is causing discourse between sites, users and developers for their own illusion of control of the "scene" ... hint: you can't control it.
With that said, would I purchase a Cobra Dongle? Yes.
i thought progskeet was the best way to go, you can get an extra nand, and have a switch. then you just need two hard drives.
plus progskeet can flash so many other things. im pretty sure its better than e3. werent people complaining about e3 when it came out? i cant remember/
but yeah, anything that is mod/flashcard/hack/jailbreak/whatever is always worth buying, beats playing the games sometimes just getting to mess with some new program or whatever. anyway thats my opinion
*off topic* anybody have the demo for binary domain? (for cfw 3.55 preferably)
