I'm really disgusted by this topic being broadcasted as front news. It only fuels the fire.. it doesn't help nor will it ever. I plan to no longer participate in these debates.. nor will I ever plan to participate in these topics (unless it's answering a question about help topics or providing USEFUL information.) I am boycotting these topics and hopefully others will participate in this boycot as well.
I do appreciate that tthousand approached both sides of the argument without leaning or showing favoritism to either side. But at the same time I echo what bitsbubba said earlier in this topic. Do we really need to put another spotlight into this discussion? And if yes, how many times? Will a few thousand times do? There is already hundreds of topics in this board as well as in other sites debating this senseless issue. Are the news-writers now turning into ambulance chasers? Are we now all about drama topics? Is this a drama scene now? If yes, show me the door!
To tell you the honest truth, there is no issue about the dongles. Like you said, it's the Dongle that opened the door for us to jailbreak our PS3s. We now can play backups of new games. And as another member said it best (I am going to do my best to quote his reply, because I can't recall where he posted this).

People were asking for a solution after 3.60+ games could no longer be patched. An anonymous team brought forward their dongle and fixed it so it could not be reversed engineered to avoid Sony from being able to block it for future games. With this, we can continue playing newer games. But now some of the same people asking for a solution are now campaigning a war against them? What the hell? Some things can't risk going open-source, since then it will be easier for Sony to patch the newer games.. please try to understand this point!!

That's all I will ever say about this... (logging off)
I personally think that TB/Cobra being hacked, and sony patching it the next day is better than people monopolising off the scene which is what the scene mostly tries to avoid in the first place.
The dongles are the opposite of a "scene", really.
In my eyes its a matter of preference. Besides i look at it like buying a modchip. Had to for the og xbox and other consoles. Had to buy a micro and extra battery for the pandora trick.
Well its also..........do you eant to play newer games or stay stuck in the past. You will always have pirates. Always have always will.
thanX for your time.
oops forgot to say piracy is not good.
I'd rather HAVE a solution then no solution at all

I don't like greed in any form, so I think the opposite.

Good points Jay-Jay. This is still a young scene, and we are always trying to take things to the next step, and sometimes we take it to far. Thanks for your opinion, it is always well validated and appreciated.
There's the castle, you raised the drawbridge, I can't cross the moat.
I get it, there the VIP section; I don't got a wrist band, I'll just be at the bar.

I registered to this site very early, since the first news of a working method to crack ps3 came out. I've been checking this site almost every day since then. I guess I am entitled to share my opinion.
Well, I wouldn't be so sure about it. I didn't read all the comments so far, only the first and last page, but someone stated that it's not good for the scene when a team tries to monopolise it. I agree. And therefore if we won't say it out loud, that we don't like it, it will be sort of like - "they're quiet so it's okay for us to monopolise" - no, people need to say it out loud. What they think about it. Of course not in a manner as some of the people here do like "f*ck you, f*ck S***, f*ck xxx <- put a name here". But people should be entitled to have their own opinion and if they don't like some methods they should be allowed to say it out loud.
There should be no bashing of Sites/People/Teams.
That's not 100% true. Of course there were a lot of people using dongles, but I for one used my Android phone - HTC G1 - and I know there were many other people using "free" solution.
So after that, the market was flooded with dongle clones, which everyone used to Jailbreak there PS3's on 3.41 OFW.
In my opinion this statement isn't true, because - as stated in cons - it moves the scene in the wrong direction. Moving just to move isn't the best idea, in my opinion. Because if you take 10 steps in the wrong direction, you might have to take 10 steps back in order to move in the right direction.
They are keeping the scene moving.
This is sort of connected with my above statement. It's not a point for me.
It is better than nothing.
Yeah, while I agree I also have to say, that you could've said the same thing back then about PSJ. But, surprisingly, it didn't break the scene. Instead, it moved it forward. Then why must we be afraid of breaking these dongles? Maybe it will move the scene forward? You're forgetting that there are still skilled people that could use the information obtained upon breaking these dongles in a good - for a community and scene - way. Of course there are a lot of people who bought these dongles and they are now afraid that if the open solution comes out, it'll mean that they have wasted their money, that's why they're bashing ie. JB King.
Reversing the Cobra/TB could be what breaks it.
As for me - I used to pirate because I didn't have money to buy games. But I'm 23 years old and I found a job recently, so I updated my console to the original firmware because now I can buy games and enjoy them online. Of course it means that now I have like 5 games and I used to have 10 times more. But after all, I don't have that much time to play, so I'm pretty happy with what I have. I was never interested in emulators and such - other homebrew. I have a HTC Desire HD which handles the emulators pretty well and it's portable. I can also use my PS3 controller to play on the phone, so.. Yeah, I moved on. Maybe if one day I loose my job, I'm going to visit someone with the e3 flasher and let them downgrade my console, but as of now.. I'll just keep on checking this site just to be up-to-date with the news and keep buying my games. It's just my opinion, I'm not saying I'm right, maybe I am wrong. Peace, people.
