I could care less if the latest and greatest Firmware just came out and got the CFW treatment. ALL CFW USES THE ONLY S0NY PRIVATE KEY TO HAVE BEEN LEAKED. Unfortunately for all of you this is the Private Key found in OFW 3.55 AND BEFORE!
Since S0NYs 3.55 Private Key isn't private anymore, they deep-sixed that Key in OFW 3.56 onwards. Thus the whole reason and BIG BUSINESS involving Hardware Downgraders. If your PS3 CAN NOT BE DOWNGRADED IT CAN NOT USE CFW. As All CFW =/= 3.55 at the core with all the "improvements" of say the current 4.46.
So for those who have the wrong type of 25xx, 3k or 4k PS3. Your all just SOL plain and simple. Unless S0NY make a massive screw up like they did 'round 3.55 and allow the World+Dog access to their Private Key yet again....
Your not gonna get CFW on those Systems. Unless you use some kind of ODE Firmware which is still pie in the sky. Yet apparently beeing worked on by the E3 Team.
ODE Firmware E3 is working on? What does ODE stand for? Are you saying E3 is working on a dongle that could downgrade people on 4.46 without flashing them?
I have a CECHA01 system that can go all the way to the beginning of time LOL. It needs to heve the BD Playback prohibibted issue fixed in it and I really dont want to risk bricking it by flashing the nands....Oh HOW SWEET IT WOULD BE TO HAVE A DONGLE THAT COULD ATLEAST ALLOW CFW 4.46 TO BE INSTALLED OVER OFW 4.46 thus allowing me to install Multiman and using it to restore my DRL files....One can dream I guess.
An "ODE" Is an Optical Drive Emulator... Its a small Logic Board that sits between the BlueRay and the Mainboard of the PS3 esentually it hijacks the BlueRay allowing you to load ISOs off a USB Stick / HDD. This is not gonna be the same thing as CFW, and it may never be? Companies like E3 are promising some big things like a modified CFW that'll work with their ODE* when it launches next Month? In any case that is what they are.
Other ODEs that I've seen *cough* The PSK3y *cough* require you to already be in CFW when you install 'em. Which brings us to how to use them and, I'm not qualified enough to give you an answer to that. I never used an ODE Product of any kind, anywhere ever.
If you want to fix the bugs in your System (if your the guy I'm thinking of!) with the wonky BlueRay that doesn't play BlueRay Discs. I would suggest trying to rest the PS3 though the safe mode (Hold the power button etc.. Use google it that went over your head!) If it really is a "Marriage" problem between your PS3 and the BlueRay Drive. Then the only way to fix it IS to downgrade it then re-marry the pair of them again. Sadly that will involve some work, and a Soldering Iron. Fairly sure that, that's the only way to fix it.
Best thing you could do is set a reasonable price for it, and sell it on Fleebay and get a newer PS3 (NOT THE NEWEST!) from there as well. That way the Person who'd buy it off, of ya would know how to / what was needed to fix it. I'm sure your not the first Person this happened to.
As far as bricking goes READ THE HOWTOs! Your biggest problem is gonna be having to solder 50+ Wires to and from the PS3. Other then that. Assuming that went well! you should have 100% rock solid dumps! Of course you'd have to check it out by hand. ARPITA! As I can attest to. This (or that), was the biggest chunk outta my day. Made worse by what I felt to be outta date info off the wiki page. As it turned out though everything went just fine. So as long as you get the wiring correct I don't see a huge brick risk here. YOU JUST HAVE TO ACCEPT THAT YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR TIME, and not try to rush though it.
*probably best to keep an eye out for when the reviews start to hit on E3s' ODE Device. Then again I think all these ODE claim some sort of Homebrew or other. Again how its all gonna work? Who knows right now I call "Pie in the sky shenanigans!"...
