[RELEASE] NZHawk's Awesome MountPoint Manager v1.1 Beta
[RELEASE] NZHawk's Awesome MountPoint Manager v1.1 Beta –

NZHawk over at PS3HAX has released a 'new' backup manager that lets you backup games to any folder you wish, instead of the LAUN12345/GAMEZ folder.

What?
This Awsome MountPoint Manager is pretty much like the existing backup manager, with one major difference! You can choose any folder on any device on you PS3 to use as the mounted disk.
Why?
I wanted to mess around with the SDK that was 'avaliable' and it was a good learning curve! (Pretty much the first time ive coded in C++) and it was a challenge! (24 hours with no sleep )
How to Use?
1. Download and install my app
2. Browse to the location that you store your PS3 backups (does not have to be LAUN12345/GAMEZ anymore!)
3. Make sure you have highlighted the folder that CONTAINS the game to be mounted (Not inside the game folder!)
4. Press the right button on the D-Pad
5. Double check that you have selected the folder that CONTAINS the game!! Then press the right D-Pad button again.
6. The app will now exit to the XMB, and you *should* see the game where the Blu Ray Game usually is
Done!
Oh:
Will this brick my PS3 like that fake psp emulator?

Well so this should be more *open* than the original bm? Source code available? Though this is made using the SDK from SONY.

You do not need to have a disc in the drive to get this to work I was able to select a game and boot off the app_home/ps3_game/ on the XMB without any problems.
I also tried to boot batman arkham asylum without a disc as I know it needs a disc in the drive for it to boot and it still will not boot without any disc in the drive.

Some questions:
Is it possible to point to a network place ? Like a folder in my computer ?
Does it need Hermes payload ? Or am I good with my first payload that still need the disk ?

so.. i'm confused..
is this a backup manager?
if it is, how do you tell it to 'backup' or 'play' games from a certin directory.
and what did you mean by "it plays games without a disc.. except batman" .. is this even stable then?

Well it does work but this is going to give a lot of people problems
There is no icon preview like backup manager so you end up seeing a bunch of BLxxxx folders unless you have renamed them
You have to know what the game is or you're guessing
The interface is very dos like and very hard to read, i had to walk up to the TV to see what i was doing
It is a very good start but needs polishing for sure.
I suggest renaming your folders to the game name if you wish to use this
I am using the non hermes payload with a disc in the drive on this test. I'll test with my other stick on hermes payload

Will this Backup Manager let you play games without the disc on a non-hermes psgroove?

It does the same thing as the original Backup Manager AND the newer "Backup Manager 2".
If you are using the Hermes payload, you can use it with or without a disc in the drive. The advantage of this release is you can store your games *anywhere* on the internal harddrive, or on a ext hdd, or on an SD card etc.
Still uses the same concept of remapping the bdrom drive to another location.
Some games won't boot because the PS3 uses a seperate way of authenticating a legitimate disc. Some games check it properly, some don't. Until someone works out how to patch the actual game runtime executable so it doesn't check, or fake/patch the authentication response, those games that don't work without a disc in the drive will still need one in there. It'll be the same for any "backup manager" type app that just remaps/remounts the bdrom drive.
