Unofficial PS2 game servers?
Unofficial PS2 game servers? –
I have a question. Isn't is possible to have, some sort of, hacked 'illegal' server running which can be accessed by entering a different IP or something?
Because Xbox Live couldn't be played with back-up games also at first, but there are unofficial servers which do allow you to play your back-ups online. Can't the same be done for the PS2?
Maybe it's a stupid question, but hey, I am pretty new to this stuff.
btw. I have a DSCPH-390004 PS2 with a messiah2 and can play Socom online without trouble, but when playing Tiger Woods 2004 I can't pass the DNAS test.

Is it like that? I have xbox, and I can play network system link games over the internet, that is possible with the ps2 too.
But I don't know what you mean.. So with the original xbox live kit playing online (the real online deal) not system link mode. Is that possible with xbox? I have never heard of it.
Well... it's a friend of mine who's doing it (I don't have an Xbox), so I'm not completely sure how he does it... I will ask him and post it here when I know more..
i wonder if its true or is your friend lieing to you.
Well he's certainly not lying, I played it myself at his house, he has a modded xbox, with a bigger HDD in it, the dashboard thingie... connected it with his PC through a homenetwork etc.. but he can play backups on special servers, where only people play who have backups play... but I'll ask him and get back to you exactly..
XBConnect and X-Link work via the SystemLink capabilities in games. They don't emulate the servers. As a matter of fact, quite a number of Live-only games won't work on them. The software "tunneling" methods just reroute Xbox packets to other connections found on the internet by sorta emulating an Xbox SystemLink on your computer which receives from another. In layman's terms: Your PC pretends to be an Xbox.
To sum it up, SystemLink is the Xbox's method of linking Xboxes together like i-Link. No mods are required except a computer on the same LAN. It would be like someone making a tunnelling service using Gran Turismo 3's i-Link capabilities.

Well.... this makes it clear.. for me at least.. he uses XBconnect i think... the name sounds familiar at least. So not really 'the real deal' as I stated uncorrectly in my first post.
But how can I make this possible for my PS2? Would be great to have some sort of underground network running where everyone could play their backups against eachother without the @#$@% DNAS messing things up..
