  1. #1 Question Machine ID theory... bash my stupidity
    Growler Guest
Ok, im no computer wizard, so im just throwing this out there...

I got the machine/ilink ID of diff NTSC PS2's in diff parts of the world. The ID's are 16 digits long for each...

now what I have found is that the 1st 8 digits for the machine ID were identical for both consoles, as were the ilink id's

sooooooooo, i was wondering if the 1st 8 digits were maybe like a internal region coding or something followed by a mac addy code as such...

I need to get more ID's to do comparisons with, but it makes logical sense to me. But as I said im no compy wizard. But if this was the case it will make changing between NTSC/PAL etc very easy as it will require baisc numbers that all consoles have, and you keep yopur unique ID....

    what do you guys think?

I don't see why talking about how the ID work would be prohibited.

The only digits that match in my Machine ID are D2 11 01 and in ILink are 00 1A. Perhaps those six in the Machine ID are the region of the console. Mine is also NTSC. Anyone with a PAL console willing to check out those digits?
