I have a jap PS2 (SCPH-10000) and will be installing a G2 modchip. Will I be able to play US online games (burned and DNAS patched)? Do I need a jap Network Adapter or is an US Network Adapter useable? If jap NA is needed, is it possible to set up a connection with an Online enabled game?

Finally, is it possible to use HDLoader with this model?

Im not so into JAP console, but im into online gaming.

If you can play original USA NTSC games online (originals) with a unmodded JAP, yes you can get online using DNA patched backups with modchip.

If you cant do this, you will prob get a DNA error.
Same with PAL / NTSC games. You cant cross region since it check hardwere region setting when u join the game.

However , very old games without the DNAs will work (like socom 1 and tony hawk pro skater 3)

You can on certain models download a tool to change the region on the console. Ive tested this tool myself and switched my PAL to a NTSC console, and could then use NTSC dna backups.

    Hope this helps.
Hello. This is my signature. Nice? yeah? Thanks!

You will get probably a DNAS - 3xx error (something about wrong region) if you try playing a game with that setup. I got a customer who were using a euro DNAS patched game (The euro version of Winning Eleven 9) which seems to be patched to make the server think the US PS2 is a PAL PS2. And on the japanese V4 PS2 I own it gave me a DNAS - 3xx error (I don't remember the exact number) after I changed the whole NVRAM from my JP PS2 for a US one it connected and played fine. So region DOES matter even if the game is patched, it seems. I think it depends mostly on how the DNAS code got patched. A original US Disc will never boot on a unmodded JP PS2. If you boot a original US game on your JP PS2 with a mod you will probably get a DNAS - 402 error (means they saw your mod and blocked you).
About the network adapter, for that unit you need a PCMCIA network adapter card from Sony. It's used by the SCPH-10000, 15000 and 18000 models. The official hard disk for those models is external and connects to the PCMCIA card. The HDD power supply is external.

I personally think you're better getting an US PS2 even thought it's possible to make your PS2 at least useable for non DNAS online games. It should work fine if the DNAS games you intent to play are japanese tho

The error he'll get is actually an 833 error, not 3xx.

You will need to change the internal console ID of your PS2, using Paradox's Machine ID Changer.

Cant really say much more than that, but you might wanna visit backupscene where there's no restriction on online chat.

    Thanks for all your replies.

I'll look for information on changing the console region to US version. Does anyone know where I could get the PCMCIA network adapter card for my model from a reliable place?

I saw it long time ago ai liksang... but it was like 2 years ago .... In Japan PS2s of the 10k, 15k and 18k are considered obsolete and finding replacement for the HDD case or network card is hard. Eventually you can get a set from the PlayOnline shop, but I think you gotta go to Japan for that lol...
Maybe you can sell that PS2 for a collector and buy a 50k with a easy to find network adapter is an easier choice ... Luck 4 u, man !
