HELP !! A bunch of Qs regarding going online... –

hi guys...i have recently decided to try out online gaming (never had time to do that before) :P......i am gonna go for a 256kbps DSL connection....regarding this, i have a bunch of questions, that i wud really appreciate if someone answered...
1) i have heard that a minimum of 512kbps is needed for online gaming..will 256kbps hold ?
2) the DSL modem connects to my computer using a USB connection...how do i transfer this to the PS2 ?? maybe by then using a LAN between the PC and PS2 ?
3) My ps2 is a v5/6 PAL 30004R PS2 with a Messiah chip....do i need a different chip to go online ?
4) there is a clone being sold in my local retailer...this clone can be switched off, but then, only the originals will boot...is there any way to started a DVDr while the chip is off, without using swap magic or any additional hardware ?
5) Are there any special conditions required from the DSL connection, for ps2 online gaming ?
6) I have a UK PAL PS2 (30004R), but a US Network Adapter (with a US Network Adapter v3.0 Disc)....wud there be a conflict ?
7) Is there any problem if i am located in Asia (Pakistan) ???
8) I am aware that my PS2 will get banned if $ony detects a chip in my ps2...but will this happen even if i use the internet for other stuff e.g. updating cheats in AR MAX ?

other Q as well,.....i was just looking at the network tutorials at uk.playstation.com, and i found a tutorial on online registration, before u can play online actually....regarding this, more Qs...
1) is this process necessary to play online ? cant u just log in from a game ?
2) in the registration, they ask for the network access code...i have a US code, since i got the US network adapter,...will it be a problem ? i wud also like to mention that, my cousin has a UK slim PS2..can i use his network access code instead since his PS2 is from UK and he doesnt play online ?
3) along the process, i also read that $ony physically mail you the PIN to your postal address.....will they mail me all the way in pakistan ?

May be ok for some games but will cause lag in others (PES for example)
2) the DSL modem connects to my computer using a USB connection...how do i transfer this to the PS2 ?? maybe by then using a LAN between the PC and PS2 ?
Yep LAN between PS2 and PC and you'll need to setup Internet Connection Sharing on the PC
3) My ps2 is a v5/6 PAL 30004R PS2 with a Messiah chip....do i need a different chip to go online ?
You don't need a chip at all to play originals online. If you want to play backups online you'll need to patch them, but this can't be discussed here. Google DNAS Patching for more info
4) there is a clone being sold in my local retailer...this clone can be switched off, but then, only the originals will boot...is there any way to started a DVDr while the chip is off, without using swap magic or any additional hardware ?
I believe the above answer covers this. To use online backups you don't disable the chip, just patch the backup.
5) Are there any special conditions required from the DSL connection, for ps2 online gaming ?
If you are using a firewall certain ports may need to be open. This is just like for PC Online games.
6) I have a UK PAL PS2 (30004R), but a US Network Adapter (with a US Network Adapter v3.0 Disc)....wud there be a conflict ?
No... But see answer below
7) Is there any problem if i am located in Asia (Pakistan) ???
Yes this is a problem. You can only play games from your region online and the PS2 MUST be from that region also. There are utilities available to change the machine ID of the PS2 but I have no experience of these and don't think that they can be discussed here
8) I am aware that my PS2 will get banned if $ony detects a chip in my ps2...but will this happen even if i use the internet for other stuff e.g. updating cheats in AR MAX ?
No. The only time $ony checks for chip is during DNAS authentication. If they find a chip the game will not start. I have not however heard of anyone being banned for this. Usually banning occurs in game when memory alterations are detected (ie cheats).

Yes you can just use the game to configure the network card

You only need to register this code to play games online that use the $ony Central login. There are not that many and tbh most are not worth playing online anyway
3) along the process, i also read that $ony physically mail you the PIN to your postal address.....will they mail me all the way in pakistan ?
Can't answer this as I had Beta PIN. I never received my replacement and have not missed it at all

well, in any case, thanx for the reply dude, really needed it....
now, regarding the modchip, first u mentioned that i dont need to disable the chip to go play online, then u said that i might get booted off for having the chip? a little confused here...
and is the changing of the machine code really needed ?
also, since my PS2 is from UK, and the Network Adapter is from US which method do i follow to get online, the one on uk.playstation.com, or the one on us.playstation.com ??
also, i cant find network access code for my US network adapter anywhere in the packaging. is there even a network access code for the US Network Adapter ?
also, the online registration process, is it necessary to complete, or can i skip it ?
lastly, which games can i play online ? the US versions or PAL versions or both ?

1. network adapter region dusnt matter
2. duno which way it is but when you patch a backup it stops the modchip being detected or the chip can hide (duno which)
3. the changing machine id is for if you want to play other region games or if you get banned.
4. only pal games will work on a machine with a pal id

u r about this ? cuz everywhere on $ony's site, they say that they will throw u off the servers if a chip is detected....plus the on-going hype about all the latest chips having the 'sleep' feature....
