Problems saving ps one games on my ps2

Hi lads i hope u can help me whit this . I whas playing ff 9 "ps one" on my ps2 console and when i tryied to save it say i dont have any memory card !

have crystal chip whit boot manager

Using a PS1 1MB memory card that has been properly formatted? PS1 games don't recognize the PS2 8MB cards.
