Which titles are protected?

There is the protected games mode on the modchip but which are the protected games? Is there a list somewhere? Obviously splinter cell is among them. Can I request a brief explaination of how the protection works? There is info for protected PS1 games around but couldn't find any for ps2. Can't the games be patched PS1 style to remove the protection?
