Problems with ICE on v4
Problems with ICE on v4 –
im new here in this forum, and i have a problem with an Final ICE and a v4 PS2 (PAL). I soldered the chip like they said in this pic :
after i had finished i plugged the console on power and TV.. and taaadaaaa nothing.... i got normal startscreen, then it starts reading the disc and after 3 seconds (DVD) the laser just sound *tic tic tic* and its over. CDR just starts slow and doesnt really spinup, just a little spinaround and nothing happens.same on movies and all other....
first, i flash the chips on myown with icprog, maybe someone knows it.
i had to disable the verification on and after flashing, cause it always says failed on verification. reading the chip just gives nothing useful to see on the banks. but another ice chip from same flashing works fine in v5...
so i build that old chip out. build in a new one, but hey nothing happens at all was the same result as the first chippie...
now i think i ****ed up somethink around points M-P, maybe the dvd-driver, but im not really sure..
i also took a voltmeter and checked passthrough on all points, looked good.
maybe it really depends on the flashing procedure of icprog. im not sure...
or maybe someone got the same problem and fixed it and want to help
edit: ok,i flashed a new one insert it and got some good results, but quiet not perfect. when i insert dvd-movie or dvdr it starts spinning, then gets out with the *tic tic tic tic*. after a few secs it spins on again followed by a hard crack inside the drive. then it spins on a 3rd time and loads the disc properly. verrrry weird. i thought about adjust the poti on laser, but not quit sure if its right. cause originals wont boot @ all and the drive did not do the 3 spinups from above. cdr is just the same, slow spinning around but nothing happens..
hope someone now have more hints and knows a solution

You shouldn't get any error when verifying. Uncheck the CP fuse when programming if you want the verification to succeed.
Also, before programming the chip with the FINAL ICE code, erase it by programming it with all 0FFF's, as are the blank buffers in ICprog.
The tic-tic-tic sounds the laser makes can be the consequence of either the bad programming of the chip, bad wiring, weak laser diode or bad laser alignment.
