Magic V / 50k Question.

Just out of curiosity...does anyone out there know if the Magic V 50k is usable on non V9 PS2s such as V8s and below? Modchipstore.com has it down as "V9 SCHP 50001 / 50010 Only". And they charge 10 dollars more I might add. If anyone has tried it, please lemme know.
